Competitor for 'best food on the mountain on a budget' Welcome lumber jack food for those that don't want canned Mexican at "the Village." Noisy, but the service is good. [24 Oct 2005 20:18:57]

C Rating, Restaurant Dirty We've eaten breakfast here several times. Big,tasty omelettes. But, the condiments are always sticky and dirty and we have seen bits of food on the walls, tables and yes - stuck to the salt & pepper shakers. The place needs a SERIOUS steam cleaning from top to bottom and then we may go back. [19 Mar 2006 14:53:54]

Too busy to be friendly or on time We have been to the restaurant many times a month, doing pick up orders because the first time in, we waited over 45 minutes for a pick up and saw that they had food ready to be delivered sitting for over an hour not being kept warm- WHATEVER.
Tonight (9/28/2006) I got some of the rudest treatment, and I have to say maybe they are in a slump with manners, respect and good service to their customers. We placed an order a few minutes before 6pm and were told to come in half an hour. Apparently the person manning the phones forgot to put down the time we called and guessed it was 6:15pm. When the woman expiditing the order said "you're early" I said we had placed the call at 6:00pm, the woman at the phones took a very rude tone and smirked at me. I left the facility and let my husband stay to get the food. This was just one in 3 medocre to poor service experiences we have had in the past 2 weeks at the Cottage.
The first was that their menu states they serve breakfast (the best deal) until 12pm on Fridays. We were told at 11:30am it was no longer served. Hello- change the hours on the menu!! The following Sunday my order came out cold and the bacon significantly overcooked. When I mentioned it, the waitress was slightly rude, comped my meal and blamed it on a new chef. Sorry had seen this one there before and he has made the food fine other times.
Although they have the best clam chowder on the mountain- they seem to have let by gone reputations go to their head as if they were someplace worthy of rudeness- say Koi or Spago. It will be a VERY long time before I go there again. [29 Sep 2006 22:30:20]

mountain food the way most like it Most often the people who come to the cottage are mostly cheap and on a budget so cheap they order 2 plates to split 1 meal. The service is great I think, friendly, fast. Waitresses are not there to b.s. the customers. Just too busy, too much of a crowd most of the time. Come by on a weekend when all the flatlanders come up to see the snow - what a zoo. [01 Jan 2007 23:13:37]

The wife had "the best" Clam Chowder she has EVER had and that includes BOSTON!
Had the Large 18" pizza and we haven't had such a great pizza since we left NJ! [03 Mar 2007 03:25:58]

Excellent Food! My wife and I have been back to The Original Cottage five times now and each a every dish is superb. They have a real chef and the food he prepares is to die for.
Overlook the age of the physical plant and just come hungry. The service is superb also! [23 Mar 2007 20:31:08]

Some Incredibly Good Menu Items My family has eaten at the Original Cottage about 25 times over the past few years, and I highly recommend their Grandpa's Special Pizza. It's the best pizza I've ever eaten, whether on the mountain or in the flatlands.
Their antipasto salad is unmatched anywhere, and my wife and son love their lasagna and calzones.
The Farmer's Breakfast (tons of scrambled eggs, breakfast meats, cheese, skillet potatoes, biscuit gravy, etc.) tastes great, is a huge bargain and can easily feed two people.
Yes, it's crowded on weekends and evenings, which is inconvenient, but obviously there are many people who consider it worth the wait. I'm among them, but when my family or I don't feel like waiting, we order in advance for take-out. [24 Sep 2007 20:53:32]
