Huge disappointment I had planned a very special dinner for the evening of April 24th. I had never patronized the Castaway in San Bernardino but was told it was an excellent establishment. It seemed to be so on our arrival. The table we were seated at was extremely wobbly and had to ask to be moved to another one. Three different staff members promised us three different tables. We were, finally, moved to a sturdier table. The drinks we ordered were average, at best. The crab stuffed mushrooms we ordered tasted much more like fish than crab. Having to fend off swarming flies grew tedious and tiresome, not to mention ruined our desire to eat, so we decided to leave after the sub-par appetizers. [08 May 2004 23:52:11]

Service was BAD The service was awful, we waited for a total of three hours for our food, there were at least 30 people in our party and they all say they will never return to Castaway and we heard other parties say the same. Drinks were never refilled, food was cold and we had to just send it back and leave . Chairs were broken at least seven and service the worst I have ever had [23 Jan 2005 14:38:42]

Castaway Brunch....Food is We love going to Sunday brunch and when we don't feel like driving to Seal Beach or Santa Monica, about two years ago we started going back to Castaway Restaurant in San Bernardino...this is after an absence of many years because of the poor quality we experienced on our first visit there in '98. Until recently, we would have given Castaway a glowing review, the food quality was very good, the service efficient and friendly...in fact we like the Castaway's so much under the new manager that we had last Thanksgiving dinner there....unfortunately WAS seems to be the operative word here...recently the food quality has fallen, service is spotty and frankly the inside of the restaurant needs a GOOD CLEANING.... come on...cob webs..complete with spiders over the "hostess" desk...dying plants and dirty mirrors...just don't cut it...not to mention the buffet room was uncomfortably hot...leading one to wonder about the quality of the seafood laid out there...the shrimp were warm (on the cold buffet table) and tasteless....well you get the picture.... Too bad, 'cause the view is spectacular, the patio charming and it SHOULD be a great dining experience.....but it's not..... [31 Jul 2007 21:00:36]
Food: Service: Ambiance: Overall: Recommended Dishes: items from the HOT buffet servers ONLY...stay away from the 'cold' seafood in this way too warm room..unless you like getting the runs!u
