Free Dessert! I knew that headline would catch a few eyes, but it's true! Free dessert every Tuesday 6pm-9pm.
We stopped in here for a quick bite to eat one Tuesday. One of us ordered the meatless Rueben; the other brocoli quiche. The food arrived quite rapidly, was steaming hot, and very good. The meatless Reuben had a veggie patty, heaps of sauerkraut, Swiss cheese, all on toated rye. It was nearly impossible to tell that this was vegetarian. The quiche was quite good, with a side of fresh fruit; highly recommended.
When we finished up dinner, we were told that each of us could pick a FREE desert from the dessert case. Too full to eat it there, we had a piece of cheesecake and a house mouse put in boxes for later. The house mouse, in case you're wondering is a dense piece of chocolate cake decorated to look like a mouse. Both were very good.
And besides, the City Deli decor is dinerish, what more could you ask for! [28 May 2003 20:03:13]

Tucson's Local Couple (www.tucson.halversen.com)
Poor Customer Service from Owner/Manager I took lunch at City Delicatessen as a first-time customer. I ordered spinach lasagna w/small side salad, iced tea, and wine. I experienced the following:
#1.) I found something floating in a glass of wine that I was served. #2.) I bit into a stem left on the one small tomato in my very sparing salad. #3.) The small salad that I had was mostly composed of croutons.
I was going to speak to my server, but she was busy serving other customers. As I had errands to run, I decided to forgo any mention of the things that I had experienced. However, as I presented myself at the cash register with the bill and my credit card, I was met by a person who neither acknowledged me as a patron (no eye contact or greeting), nor inquired as to how my dining experience had been. He seemed focused solely on taking my money. So, I asked him if he were the Manager. He replied that he was. I told him that I was surprised that he hadn't asked me how things were with my lunch. He told me that he "was too busy to go around and ask customers about their food and service."
So, I proceeded to tell him about the three things that I had experienced with my lunch. He asked me if I had talked with my server about them. I told him that I had not. He told me that the server was my "first point of interaction."
I typically take up these issues with most servers. That aside, I believed that he, as the functioning manager, was the "second point of interaction" if I wished to provide feedback. Bottom line, this "Manager" totally discounted and dismissed my comments. So, I paid my bill and left to run some errands. Still, I felt dissatisfied and unhappy with my first-time experience there.
