Pancakes, pronto Proof that tourism is down, down, down is the lack of a line outside the door of Sears Fine Foods at 7 a.m. on Independence Day. Despite the lack of demand, waitstaff are quick, moving the meal along with gratifying efficiency. Frequent coffee refills help the customer rev to racing speed.
The Swedish pancakes are every bit as good as advertised: light, delicately flavored, and terrific without interference from butter and syrup. Bacon is crispy without being greasy. Even a bacon-cheese omelet managed a cheery lack of greasiness.
So it seemed like a great meal -- until the check turned out to be just as high as for a more elaborate, more "new American" brunch at, say, Miss Millie's in Noe Valley. The secret to keeping the tab under control: do not, under any circumstances, order the fresh-squeezed orange juice. It comes lukewarm, in small portions, at a high price. You'll enjoy your breakfast at Sears much more if you just go ahead and run the risk of developing scurvy. [04 Jul 2003 23:10:03]

Horrific, Rude Service My girlfriend & I tried to have a late breakfast on Jan 1, 2005 and were met by quite probably, the rudest, more insulting hostess we've ever encountered. She ignored us as she sat other people (2 tables) who arrived after us and when we spoke up, she barked as very condescendingly and rudely. We were so shell-shocked by her utter disrespect & aggressiveness, we immediately walked out and went to a diner that was across the street, in which we received prompt & courteous service. Avoid this place. It's very overrated. [06 Jan 2005 00:42:37]
