Description

Katy's Korner is a cheerful breakfast-and-lunch café. It is busy, especially on weekend mornings. It claims to have the largest breakfast menu on the west coast, including ten variations of egg Benedict, Swedish pancakes and cheese blintzes.

Katy will never be lonely in the Korner
A new-found Sunday morning favorite, Katy’s Korner, on San Ramon Valley Boulevard in San Ramon, specializes in a truly exquisite and one-of-a-kind Eggs Benedict. And we’re not just talking about a few poached eggs and a slice or two of ham on top of some English muffins drizzled with some hollandaise sauce. Though the “Classic Eggs Benedict” is available, it is only one of a wide variety of different variations to the classic. For example, how about Crab Benedict? Perhaps the California Benedict, with turkey and avocado, peaks your interest. They even have a Salmon Benedict! And the choices just keep on coming! But the variety isn’t what will keep you coming back: it’s the hollandaise! Katy’s hollandaise sauce is so deliciously unique and flavorful that I find myself anticipating a burp, hoping that I will taste that wonderful sauce again! And as if that weren’t enough, the menu includes an extensive list of other fairly eclectic selections: omelettes, pancakes, waffles, cinnamon rolls, steak & eggs, even cheese blintzes! Every time I go in, I want to try something new, but try as I might, I always find myself ordering something that I can at least dip in that awe-inspiring sauce. Katy’s service is nearly perfect, and this is only restaurant that I have ever dined at that I can say that about honestly. I don’t know what it is that allows them to be so efficient, prompt, attentive, and respectful, but they are the definition of the “well-oiled machine.” And consistency is the name of the game, people! We’re not talking about one or two visits. Lisa and I have been eating breakfast at Katy’s pretty much every Sunday since August or September. And not once did I leave that restaurant without a heavenly taste on my tongue, a stomach full of food, a smile on my face, and sincere gratitude in my heart!    [16 Nov 2003 18:54:20]

Don't miss their homemade soups!
Having usually visited Katy's Korner for breakfast, I was pleasantly surprised recently when I met a friend for lunch. Even though it was lunchtime, I was tempted by their breakfast menu. When I chose a sandwich and was going to just have the regular fries as an accompaniment, I wasn't quite sure when the waitress suggested one of their soups. My dining companion was having a bowl of tomato soup and suggested that I give it a try. Ok. I have a new addiction. Whenever I am in the area, my brain does a quick pass to figure out if they would still be open . . . maybe I could just get a couple of bowls of soup to go; I wonder if it will freeze well; I really don't have time, but I might not be back this way for a week or so; I wonder if they would share their recipe . . . . ;-) I plan Saturday chores just so I can stop by Katy's for lunch.    [05 Dec 2003 10:39:16]

Icelandic Hospitality
Katy's is tucked into a corner in yet another one of San Ramon's many strip malls.
I hate to review this one as it will just make more customers come to this already popular breakfast and lunch spot.
Katy's is only open at breakfast and lunch. When you come in they welcome everyone like a long time guest. The family who runs Katy's are Icelandic and are all gorgeous. You will be greeted by a big smile. The service is excellent.
This place is a little quirkly, lots of funny saying on the walls, a collection of porceiln pigs and a small patio out front. (Your view is the lovely parking lot.)
The kids love it as they bring games to the table and have a video room in the back to watch videos while you wait for your breakfast or lunch.
I love the corn beef and hash here. It's the best. They have a lot of extra spicy sauces here (who knew Icelandic folk liked their food so hot!) The also do a lot of the basic egg and sausage/bacon dishes that you would expect.
The food is always served fast and hot. There is a lot of it and everyone always leaves happy. (Now let's keep this our secret, it's already hard to get into on a Sunday morning!)    [25 Sep 2004 13:47:06]

Katy's Gone Downhill Fast
When my family and I had to move from San Ramon a few years ago, one of the first things I thought of was how I would never find a breakfast joint as good as Katy's Korner. Being the eggs benedict lover as I am, I sadly said goodbye to the best place to get it, as well as the convenience of the playroom in the back for our kids. Well, we moved back and the first thing we did was visit Katy's Korner, only to be completely surprised at the sad and dirty diner it has become. It smells musty, the carpets are so matted and dirty they seem sticky, the kid's playroom had flies and yellow jackets and day(s) old pieces of bacon and toast crust on the floor (the toys are disgusting!! Come on, Katy, we all know you are successful, let maintain the place!), the menus needed to be replaced years ago, the tables and chairs are dirty, the cooks go in and out of the back door (which is always open) leaving a view of the dirty ally and smell of garbage dumpster stench, I was just waiting for a mouse to crawl by any second.
I was seconds from grabbing my kids and leaving, (as one of them attempted to put the day(s) old bacon in his mouth), when we were served with breakfast. I was hoping that the food would save our complete disgust of the place, but I was wrong. The egg whites were about as runny as the yolks, and as I was playing around with it (not eating it), I happened flip over the muffin on my eggs benedict and noticed a green, furry, mold-looking substance growing all the way through the muffin. With the musty smell and the "cooks" going in and out of the back ally, and the disgusting carpet, I just about threw up. I brought the muffin to the attention of a server, and she brought into the back of the kitchen for a few minutes and said she thinks it's grease (greenish black grease? And from what? There was nothing nearly that greasy on my plate to soak an entire muffin.) We left feeling nothing less than unsanitary and sick to our stomachs. We are completely heart-broken that our favorite place has gone downhill, and at such a fast pace.

Continues to be my favorite breakfast place
My wife and I have been going to Katy's Kreek for years. Almost every weekend. My favorite, eggs benedict with extra hollondaise sauce on the side. The food is great, and the staff is very friendly. This is a must if you're looking for a breakfast place. I have not gone for lunch or dinner yet. But I'm sure it's just as good.    [17 May 2006 15:22:29]

Worst Service and Experience EVER
We went to Katy's Korner and had breakfast one Saturday morning and it was horrible. They brought one meal out and the other one came 15 mins later after the 1st person was through eating. We were told that one of the other waitresses took the meal by accident. No problem except toast was buttered not plain like asked and there was only one piece. When toast was brought out again they brought wheat instead, by the time the right toast came the omelette was cold. We tried to get the host involved and he was extremely rude cutting us off and telling us to get to the point. They didn't even attempt an apology. I was disgusted with the poor service and the lousy attitudes and will never return.    [08 Jul 2006 15:54:38]

This is a Really Good Place!
We've recently discovered Katy's Korner and really enjoy it. Although it's small,it's not dirty or smelly as the review above suggested - rather it has a comfy, homey atmospehere. They must have cleaned up since that last review was written in 2005. The potatoes are fabulous, as is the California Benedict and the bacon. I've had several breakfasts and a lunch there and will be returning often - there is a lot on the menu to sample! Service is great: fast and very friendly even in the midst of the chaos of a full (smalll) house, and the food is excellent - what more could you ask?    [27 Sep 2006 16:05:04]

Worst Breakfast Place in San Ramon Valley
The food is terrible, the service is Rude and Slow. I think the lack of breakfast places in the Valley is why people go there. I would never go here again.    [01 Jul 2007 16:22:45]
