I Can't Say Enough Good Things
This is truely and exceptional restaurant at barely more than everyday prices. The selections are creative and prefectly prepared. The staff work together seamlessly. I remember noticing my waiter standing accross the room with a dish in his hands for about 30 seconds and wondering why. He had timed the soup course a few seconds off and was waiting until I had put my fork down from the appetizer before delivering it. The wine menu either by the glass or bottle is amazing and has been written up as one of the best 100 in the country.    [28 Dec 2003 20:34:28]

Mmmmmmm
I have never had a bad dish at Uncle Yu's. Service is excellent. My only complaint would be that they charge for refills on soda...and they serve it in tiny glasses. Save the umbrella and cherry toppers, give us free refills.    [25 Apr 2004 21:06:39]

Uncle Yu's
Uncle Yu's sits in one of San Ramon's many strip malls. It's not very appealing from the outside. However once inside you will be plesantly surprised. The decor is elegant and the wait staff all wears black tuxedos.
They offer a nice wine list with a lot of local Napa and Sonoma wines. They serve a lot of wines by the glass.
The food is delcious. My favorite is the Shrimp with walnuts, but I also love th Moo Shu Pork here. They have some family meals that are a great deal for a group.
Uncle Yu's is top rate Chinese. The best in San Ramon. The service is nice and the staff is friendly. They also do take out.

My top pick for Chinese in the East Bay.    [25 Sep 2004 13:38:44]

Chinese Restaurant? Your Mean American Chinese Restaurant, Right?
Uncle Yu has the ambience of a 5-star French restaurant and the servers’ uniforms to boot. However, if you are looking for genuine Chinese (and I am talking about genuine) food, this is not the place not worthy of your time to venture. The scallop dish is delicious and hot. Unfortunately, the garnish diced carrots and peas is like “adding feet to a dragon”. An old Chinese saying meaning that it is absolutely not necessary. Mushroom and vegetable dish is favorable but plain. Double-cooked pork is way off on the Genuine Scale. A 3 on a 1-10 scale would be generous. Not only is the coloring totally off, the vegetable used (should be Chinese cabbage) is also wrong - thus leaving you a sense of makeshiftness. Overall, Uncle Yu is a restaurant catering to non-Chinese patrons who have been to the Orient once or twice in their lifetime and want to reminisce the good old days. A first class or genuine restaurant, they are not.    [07 Nov 2005 00:40:13]
