Best BBQ In Town? Could Be Cities BBQ is new in town, since November 2005. It's on a corner of Milpas and Canon Perdido with a cow on the roof. It used to be the home of City Kitchen, and while I'm sad they're gone, this is a worthy replacement.
Santa Barbara has a few good BBQ 'joints', including the venerable Woody's and the Blue Collar Bistro. The combination of variety and quality at Cities BBQ makes it possibly the best BBQ in Santa Barbara.
We had both the Kansas City-style (sticky) and Memphis-style (dry rub) ribs, and tried the mac-n-cheese, bacon cheddar grits, green beans with bacon, and mashed potatoes and gravy as our sides, sharing everything.
The ribs were awesome - the quality pork was tender, not falling off the bone - just the right firmness. Both rib styles were delicious. I think I make some darn good ribs, but these were better than mine any time.
The sides were also very good - a little on the oily side in some cases but excellent nonetheless.
They are still kind of getting their organizational feet underneath them, or perhaps they were understaffed. Nothing annoying, but noticeable. The only bummer was that they don't have their liquor license yet, but they should soon.
Overall, this is a great addition to the many many restaurants in town. I hope them much success. [12 Feb 2006 01:42:15]
