This lovely cafe is an excellent addition to the local food scene in Santa Rosa! It is aptly described as "A culinary cross between a cafe and a bistro" in the Bohemian review of the restaurant written by Jonah Raskin (http://www.bohemian.com/bohemian/12.13.06/bite-0650.html), one of the writers for the food column "First Bite."
We had been hearing good things from everyone who had been to the newly reopened cafe and decided to test it for ourselves with great results. My wife and I both had the "Country Benedict," ("a warm crispy baguette covered with scrambled eggs, bacon, mushrooms, spinach, oven-dried tomatoes, hash browns and Hollandaise sauce, $9.25") I added the "Biscuits and Gravy" ("two homemade biscuits, Dierk’s style gravy with two eggs and hash browns, $9.25") The first thing I noticed about the service was the pleasant attitudes of the servers and the efficiency of movement as they went about seating and helping customers. The atmosphere is casual and comfortable, and the food showed up so quickly that I was immediately suspect as to the manner in which it was cooked. This had to be microwaved, I thought. Until the first bite . . .
Wow! I am somewhat of a connoisseur of Eggs Benedict, and make it a point to try them any time I eat at a new breakfast place. The Country Benedict blew my mind! It was rich and buttery, with an absolutely incredible hollandaise sauce. The hash browns were perfect, which is very hard to find these days, with crispy outsides and soft and slightly moist (but COOKED!) insides creating a crispy but smooth treat. The Biscuits and Gravy were excellent as well.
Since they have a website with all the pertinent info, I won't waste space or time here going into more detail than to suggest to anyone wanting a knockout breakfast in Santa Rosa, and who might be fed up with the wait at Hank's Creekside or Omelet Express to give Parkside a try. It is now one of my very favorite breakfast places in Sonoma County! [27 Jan 2008 17:41:11]
