Best Food In California Desert Was in Southern California mountain and desert areas last week, the food there really sucked. Very middle America, fast food chains and burger joints.
Found the Cafe and Crowbar after a long day in Death Valley, was expecting another burger joint, but was surprised by the menu selection and how good the food tasted. We ordered the Ribeye and the Chicken Santa Fe.
Stayed the night at the Shoshone Inn and went back to the Cafe for breakfast (California Omelette and Blueberry Pancakes).
The town's people were very friendly and very supportive of their town. Too bad we didn't have time to use the warm spring pool there. [29 Sep 2002 22:36:18]

great Food and service Stopped by today (1/05/03)on way to Death valley and enjoyed a very good breakfast (large order of pancakes). stopped by on way back to Las Vegas and had another great meal. Great food and service (with a smile from Robin) Thanks. Only negatve thing to report. Bathrooms need upgrading. urnal stopped up, no locks on door, no hot water just for starters. Although the Crowbar was very clean, the bathrooms do leave a bad impression. Again, Thanks. [05 Jan 2003 23:33:19]

Restored my faith in US cooking Found the place almost by accident, what excellent service and food! Very friendly staff and a really friendly feeling about the place. The "facilities" could do with anupdate otherwise highly recommended [19 Feb 2004 07:56:59]

Worth the drive ... somewhere else Worst restaurant I've been to in my life. Everything very boring and bland. I wish I had driven another 60 miles on the narrow, dark road to Baker rather than eat in this place. Bathrooms filthy. Liquor license suspended. [03 Apr 2005 21:39:52]

Re-united with old classmate Oh my god! My first experience at the crowbar was coming out of the desert after a vision quest. A new waitress came to our table to take our order. I looked at the waitress as if I had met her somewhere before. She turned and walked back inside. When she returned I said you look really famillar. Were do I know you from? She looked at me with a smile from ear to ear, and said: Are you Michelle Baker, and at that instant I remembered where we met! We were good friends in High School. Since then we have stayed in contact, and she has now become the owner of the Buggy Cafe/Crowbar. Every time I go to the desert I swing by and say hi! I even got a chance to stay a couple of days and get to reconnect. I luv you Robin, soooo glad your doing well. [14 Sep 2005 15:17:06]
