Description

"Jacal" mean's little house (or shack) in Spanish, but this restaurant is anything but. This large, authentic Mexican Restaurant has been family owned since the 1940's and is a favorite among locals and those associated with the Del Mar Horse Races. It is well-known for it's turkey tacos, chile rellenos, and of course it's margaritas! The restaurant also boasts an outdoor patio, full bar, candy counter, and bird aviary.

Best in S.D.
Been going to Tony's since I was a kid. Simply the best Mexican restaurant in San Diego.    [05 Feb 2004 04:48:32]

My grandparents first brought me to Tony's in the 1940's when it was actually in a little house. The seats were like picnic benches as I recall and everything was very tight. The food was worth it. I was probably 8 or 9 at the time. I believe my grandfather knew Tony. As I recall they worked at a lumber yard or something like that.

Many years later, I returned to Tony's after coming back from overseas and introduced my wife to the world's best Mexican food. She still remembers it to this date.

I'm writing this now because we just finished talking on the phone to my Mother and she brought Tony's Jacal up in the course of our conversation. She used to go there with my father quite often and also remembers how great the food was.

We're all happy to know that you're still in business. Perhaps we might be fortunate enough to enjoy your hospitality again someday.

We consider our times at Tony's to be a part of our family story.

Thanks for always being there.    [30 Apr 2005 20:08:44]

Hard to Duplicate
I've been going to Tony's since 1954 and it's still a destination when I travel to the area from my home in Washington State. I've looked and you won't find food like this anywhere else.    [01 Aug 2005 16:47:36]
