Attentive, non-invasive service Great evening at Shiro. Staff was patient while we waited for another member of the party; gave us excellent service. Staff was very responsive and made necessary changes -- filling water glasses, removing empty dishes, etc. -- with quiet efficiency. The staff worked with such cooperative smoothness that it was like having four or five waiters, all effecting a very pleasant dining experience. It was the best, most efficient, and most non-pretentious service we have ever had in the twenty-two or more states across the country we have visited in thirty years.
Food was exciting, imaginative; we are not big wine drinkers, but we found the Echelon, '01 to be very tasty.
We will be back! [04 Aug 2003 19:39:28]

Catfish & Chopsticks My friends and I go to Shiro for the catfish! Tempura fried with wedges of ginger, served floating in a ponzu sauce. You can really enjoy practicing your chopstick technique on this wonderful fish. Then you'll need to chase this with the house creme brulee. [08 Apr 2003 20:52:55]

One of the worst..... My husband and I visited Shiro tonight after reading many positive reviews and we were completely disappointed. We ordered the catfish, sea scallops, and creme brulee. The catfish was okay, but you can stop by any Chinese restaurant in the San Gabriel Valley and get something 100% tastier for half of the price. The scallops were small and not worth my taste buds. The creme brulee was also a disappointment. Fruit in the watery dessert? The dinner did come with a SMALL plate of sides ... the sides were a joke. The design of the restaurant and the service were also nothing to rave about. Everything was bland and uneasy to the eye. This is one of the worst restaurants we've ever been to. We feel like we've been cheated. [01 Nov 2003 23:29:01]

Our long time favorite My husband and I have been going to Shiro for about 9 years now and have never been less than thrilled. Husband gets the catfish -- I often go with the special, and it's always fabulous (duck, venison, lobster -- all have been wonderful). Shiro was also kind enough to do a tasting menu for us once -- tastier than most and far less expensive. This place is a joy. [03 Jun 2004 01:20:55]
