This is a wonderful find! Delicious entrees prepared with organic ingredients, wonderful breads, desserts, gorgeous surroundings. Great for a date or special meal. Sit outside by the creek. [09 Jul 2002 01:32:03]

The restaurant and staff were wonderful, down to every last detail in making the night of my proposal perfect, the ambiance was wonderful, food enjoyable, and service impeccable, our waiter Franky was prompt, but not intrusive, fun. Thank you staff of the Inn of the Seventh Ray. I would recomend this restaurant to anyone looking for a place to have that special occasion. [18 Nov 2003 15:20:33]

Huge waste of money! I kid you not, my "scallops and clams in broth" entree consisted of ONE scallop and ONE clam! My slice of cheesecake was so miniscule I can only assume they were rationing one cheesecake for the entire night. I paid for the $50 prixe fixe 5-course meal and left the restaurant hungry! If you really want a nice atmosphere, by all means, go, but snack beforehand and don't order the prix fixe. [02 Jan 2004 13:35:44]

Things have changed... ...for the worse, unfortunately.
Its still a very pretty setting, but I'm afraid the food itself has been declining over the last year or so. Apart from a few things on the raw foods menu, most other fare is rather a let-down, both in appearance, quantity, and not least, taste. This opinion is based on about half a dozen recurring visits with my wife and friends, and a sense of general decline over time. Oh, and the service - absolutely atrocious for a restaurant that is classed so high. I was at Valentino the previous week, and I tell you, there are LIGHT YEARS of difference in the service! These people should take some pointers from Piero on how to treat customers. I saw the Maitre at IoSR treat a young, not obviously wealthy-looking couple with such overt disdain when they asked to see the menu - I mean, come on! Everybody deserves some respect!
Add to this some observations from friends regarding the rather dismal offerings from the fixed-price menu. and it all boils down to a rather unfortunate conclusion:
Whoever is running the place now is doing it for the money, not as it was in the past, for the love of it. [29 Dec 2005 21:21:28]

Inn of the 7th Ray Very Disappointing Food is enormously overpriced, quality is not too bad but used to be much better. The setting is pretty, but there's something creepy about the overall atmosphere which probably has to do with the doomsday cult that runs the restaurant. [07 Nov 2006 13:30:35]

Used To Be Better I have patronized the Inn for probably more than 20 years, since way back when the chef would come out and handpick greens and herbs to create their love-infused dishes.
Now I get the feeling that the whole thing is about profit. It's still a charming setting - what setting isn't lovely under the oaks in Topanga?
The sappy New-Agey music drives me a bit bats. The service is slooow, and the waitresses sometimes extremely rude. I think it's because they need to hire more than the typical one, and sometimes two, people to wait tables.
As far as the taste of the food, I'm torn between writing "magical" and "blech." It depends on the dish.
Still, we often go to the restaurant since we live in Topanga and there are only two other restaurants to choose from in the evening. I'd say to you, try it, you'll probably like it. And if you can get waited on decently, it will make a nice romantic dinner. [07 Jul 2007 19:35:40]
