Downhome Cookin' In SoCal! As a regular BBQ'er, I'm constantly looking for the Ultimate steak. I can proudly say that this hole in the wall, backwoods hut is one of the best steaks that I've had in a restaurant! The fact that it's in California is an amazing fact at that!
Comparatively speaking, Californians don't really know how to grill or cook steak like other states do. An example would be Texas. In my travels to the midwest, and back east, I've noticed distinctly that BBQ gets better as you go further into the culture of the eastern US. Trabuco Oaks has the feel of a "Mom & Pop" shop, the ambience of a secluded getaway, and the food is once again fantastic!
The Food & People: Don't go with a partial appetite, or a taste for variety. This place is a steak house only. What they do, they do well. Don't go expecting a waiter or waitress to kiss your feet, rather go expecting a good, juicy, flavorful and perfected steak. You won't be let down if that's the premise in which you come to this tucked away little jewel! The staff don't seem to be your typical SoCal snooty snobs which is a real plus if you're like me (i you don't like that, it's because your probably one of those snooty snobs).
Conclusion: If you want a casual place to go and get a cold beer, a perfect steak, and a bit of a change of pace, then this is a place to try. I eat there about once every couple of months and enjoy it thoroughly. Oh yeah, one last thing...It's usually so sought after on the weekends that you can't get in within 2 hours without a reservation...so plan ahead and enjoy! [14 Oct 2006 13:54:10]
