Fantastic Food There is almost too much to choose from on the menu. My husband and I shared an appetizer and a dessert and we both enjoyed those and each of our entrees which is a rarity for us. Usually one of finds something not up to par! From what I have seen of Merchant and Main, the Old Post Office isn't as romantic or atmospheric but the food was awesome, the service was good and the prices were reasonable. [22 Aug 2005 14:39:43]

A Real Find My husband and I seem to find these "off the beaten path" restaurants by reading local papers when we are staying in a new area. That is how we found ourselves there for dinner Dec 9. The entire dining experience was great, from the greeting from the hosts to the desserts which are made daily onsite.
We each tried a different entree and dessert and sampled, everything was excellent. [10 Jan 2007 14:53:16]

Terrible This is the second time I ate at the Old Post Office. The first time I ate there for lunch I wasn't very impressed but I thought I'd give it another chance. Well, the second time was even worse. The service was terrible and the food was only O.K. for the price. They don't even de-vein their prawns - yuck! I thought this was supposed to be an upscale restaurant. Even the owner stated they don't make it a practice to de-vein their prawns. The server and the owner didn't seem to care that their customers are dissatisfied. Not even a sorry. [12 Mar 2007 15:35:06]

Dont Waste Your Time This was the first and last time I will eat here. Ordered a half dozen oysters on the half shell. They brought five -- the server didn't care, said it was depending on size. It does not say that on the menu, it said a half dozen. Service was terrible!!!! Seafood platter was in like a bowl of soup. YUCK.
And to top it off, it was way too expensive for the food and service!!!! [26 Apr 2007 09:00:30]

Somebody Please Teach These Folks What Good Customer Service Is All About! I have been to this restaurant a few times in in the last couple of years, and the food can actually be decent -- sometimes. The one thing you can actually count on? Awful service!
Vacaville doesn't have many "upscale" places, and this is probably the closest it gets to that, so I usually take out-of-town friends to eat there. Unfortunately, my most recent dining experience there was a disaster. I ordered the Nicoise salad for lunch, usually a safe choice. Unfortunately, the balsamic vinaigrette had an excessive amount of balsamic vinegar -- so much that it was impossible to eat. I communicated this to our server and she offered to have the kitchen re-do my entree. The salad came back within minutes, but rather than redoing the dish from scratch, they simply transferred the partially-eaten ahi tuna and placed it on top of DRY greens. Yes, I said DRY greens. I took a bite and I thought it was all a bad joke. I was able to catch our server's attention when she brought food to a nearby table and expressed my disappointment over the dry greens (first, too much vinegar, then NO DRESSING at all!).
At this point, I had given up on having a decent Nicoise salad, so I asked for a prawn salad instead "to see if I have better luck with the prawn salad." Our server returned within minutes with the VERY SAME DRY Nicoise salad, except this time she had a container of balsamic vinaigrette on the side. Her words, as she delivered the same old salad was "this is all I can do; it's out of my hands. I'll take the salad off your bill." I answered: "Yes, please do, and please take your salad as well -- my appetite is gone."
I asked to speak with the manager and was told that he was "busy." Needless to say, I walked away still hungry and with a bad case of heartburn from the bad experience.
While Vacaville is a wonderful town for many great reasons, the sad reality of living there is that there are NO decent restaurants in this town. The good news is, there are many wonderful (and similarly priced) restaurants in Napa, if you are willing to drive 25 minutes.
Please save your money and your heartburn medication and stay away from this place. [26 Jun 2007 16:49:29]

Would Not Go There Had a reservation at 7:30 on Valentine's Day; didn't get seated until 8:15, at a makeshift table in a hallway. Refused to sit there and waited for another table. Then they only had a set menu with about three choices for dinner at $45 a plate. We walked out. Terrible place. [15 Feb 2008 11:17:32]
