No Savor a El Tio Pepe I recently ate at El Tio Pepe's restaurant and the food as well as the service lacked "savor"/flavor. The waiters that usually just bring you the water and salsa and chips paid more attention to my daughter and myself than the actual waiter! My daughter had rice, beans and chicken taquitos and I had enchiladas rancheras con arroz y frijoles. The food was very bland and I guess if you don't like spicy or food with any flavor, then this is a good restaurant to attend. The chicken looked like it was out of a can, there was no "red sauce" on the enchiladas and even my daughter, did not like the rice and spit it out. The rice was dry and also lacked flavor. If you are used to good tasting food with spice and flavor, this restaurant is not for you. When I did complain about the food not being up to standards how it used to be a few years ago, the waiter just ignored me and after the second time I told him that my daughter did not even eat her meal, he, in his own words, told me that how I felt was contrary of what the other customers have stated about the food. What happened to the customer always being right? When I paid for the meal, which I hesitated doing because we really did not eat any of it, (and by the way, the waiter, after I told him I was dissatisfied with the meal, had the adacity to ask me if I wanted a box to take the leftovers home!!!), well I also told the manager about the food and he just responded by saying that the restaurant has had the same chef for 15 years. Again, lack of customer service and public relations skills. If that is the case about the chef, I think it is time to hire a new one. I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone, not even my worst enemy! The food and service like mentioned before lacked flavor and class. [20 May 2006 00:17:27]

This is one of the worst Mexican restaurants out here. The only thing edible on the menu is their Fried Ice Cream, but if you want ice cream at a better price then go to an ice cream shop where it's cheaper and they'll have a better selection.
They don't even use real avocados for their guacamole or as a garnish when they are in season, they use that crap in a can. The rice is very dry, and if you order enchiladas they drench it in cheese and some horrible sauce.
The atmosphere is nice, and the service rocks but the food just plain sucks, and I'm NOT a picky eater. You'd be better off going to the hole in the wall. [19 Jul 2006 10:58:54]

My Favorite!!!! I love El Tio Pepe. They have great tacos and I love their chunky beef. My husband thinks the chimi is the best. Another favorite of mine is the pork enchiladas with salsa verde. Every time I have been there I have had great service. I recommend El Tio Pepe's to everyone searching for a good Mexican restaurant. [30 Mar 2007 12:53:14]

I Drive There Every Christmas I ate at this restaurant and had a taco salad. I recommend one to go to the Del Taco or Taco Bell for much better food. I drive up to the high desert every Christmas to be with relatives there and they do not know what good Mexican food is. Of course, I still must go ever year and keep trying different things till I find something I like. [26 Dec 2007 09:31:39]

Intentional Pathetic Service! My husband and I have been going to El Tio Pepe for 10 years. Interestingly enough in these hard economic times, we received a coupon in the mail which was not good Mother's Day, Father's Day but good through 06/30/08. Tonight, June 20, 2008, I showed the waiter this coupon prior to the waiter taking our order. He said I should show it to the cashier when paying. We ordered our dinner (one of which did not include a salad, so it would be paid for over and above what the entree would be). Our total would have been over $40.00 and would have qualified for the $10.00 off of the total. Instead, our brilliant waiter decided not to bring our beverages without being asked for them, and not to bring our salad, soup or the tortillas to go with my fajitas, so that when the bill was brought, we were $.73 short of the $40.00 tab, thus "NOT QUALIFYING FOR THE $10.00 off coupon!" Pretty pathetic!!!!! They just lost the next 10 years plus of our business for their bad behavior. What goes around comes around! [20 Jun 2008 22:37:50]

Fiesta Time In all my six years that I've been living up here in the city of Victorville, I had been El Tio Pepe restaurant only twice. The reason because it has really no good service, it takes a while and mostly it's not fast enough. It's an okay restaurant, but mostly it needs new people working. In my point of view, the manager needs to hire people soon and would be a good accomplishment to the city. I do recommend this restaurant when not knowing where to go. So please, manager, hire new people . . . more hard workers, best restaurant. [13 Jul 2008 02:11:20]

I love Tio Pepe Restaurant. The service is great and the food is delicious. My favorites are the grilled fish plate and the carne al carbon. I think it's one of the best Mexican restaurants. [19 Nov 2008 17:52:07]
