Sour grapes
Don't bother stopping here. Horrible service, over-priced food. I've had better service in Denny's!!!!
$22 for a piece of dry chicken. Wine selection was good, ambience was good.    [09 Aug 2003 12:30:53]

Wonderful Lunch
I had lunch here with 3 business associates on Aug 12 and had delicious food and excellent service, in lovely surroundings. The Chile Rellenos was unique and delicous- stuffed with cheese and wild mushrooms. YUM.
The Caesar salad was bright, crisp greens perfectly dressed. The only thing missing was a few anchovies.    [16 Aug 2003 22:26:48]

The Best in Town
We have dined here at least half a dozen times and have never been disappointed. It is the best in Visalia, no question. Very formal and elegant ( my husband was asked to removed his BB cap after a football game, oops) Every detail is attended to. The service is attentive and the food is superb.
I started with the spinach salad with crisp bacon and sweet red onion which was excellent. My entree was the Atlantic salmon filet in a champagne butter sauce with wilted spinach and chives. We shared a slice of warm berry pie topped with vanilla bean ice cream. They are in the area's Entertainment Book, so you will receive $20 off your total bill.
Save this place for a special occasion. It is very nice!    [28 Jan 2004 17:01:52]

Excellent Dining
Some say that The Vintage Press is over priced and has terrible service. I say they are wrong. I am a regular customer. The food is to die for and the servers are friendly and courteous. The hostess is very kind and very considerate. There is nothing less than professionalism in the kitchen. The atmosphere is fine dining to its best and the food is better. Quiet, serene and the wine selection is amazing. I would reccomend this restaurant to everybody passing through Visalia, CA. By the way did I mention that it is five star estblishment with a state renowned Executive Chef David Vartanian.    [28 Jan 2004 17:17:29]

LOVELY MEAL
We were referred to this restaurant by our motel owner. The hostess was extremely accommodating and we got the quietest table possible as requested. In addition, she talked about the decor which included a beautiful room divider from part of the set of Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid and the main dining room design copied from the plans of the Titanic movie set. The service was extremely attentive and quick although the server was young and a tad too anxious to recommend the $25 glass of wine from the extensive wine list when the request was clearly directed to the lower priced wines. We ordered the lamb shish kebab and were very happy with our meal. The meat was cooked exactly as requested and was flavorful and tender. A chunk of eggplant was a welcome and unusual addition to the skewer. The vegetables were, again, perfectly cooked in an interesting preparation. The rice was bordered by cooked almonds (in a significant amount) and apricots. We were very sorry that we had eaten too much to try the desserts. There was also patio seating for those who didn't want the formality of the white table cloth setting. We will certainly go out of our way to eat at this restaurant and visit the very pleasant downtown of Visalia again.    [23 Apr 2005 07:23:13]

My Experience
was not that great. I walked in when there was no one in the lobby waiting to be seated. I was meeting some there for lunch...a couple walked in behind me about 10 seconds later and they were attended to first...the host was one of the owners...and however unfortunate it may be I was ignored...the gentleman who walked in behind me spoke up and said, "He was here first". With that said you could imagine my first thought...It was so blatant it was amusing to me...I had heard certain things about The Vintage Press but didn't want to believe them. Other than the prejudiced host, the food was excellent. Can anyone say take out???    [12 Apr 2006 20:48:40]

Merely the best restaurant in California
I only get to Visalia once a year for about two to three days. I have every one of my dinners at the Vintage Press when I am in town. The service is excellent, the food is unique and memorable and the wine list is a complement to the food. There is no better restaurant in the state!    [11 Nov 2006 01:24:16]

Truly a Fine Dining Experience
Our first dining experience at The Vintage Press caused great regret that we hadn't discovered this restaurant years ago. Now that we have, we will gladly make the trek from Cambria as often as we can. The restaurant's ambience is perfect and relaxing. The hosts and hostesses are warm and friendly without being arrogant. Waitstaff is knowledgeable and attentive without being overbearing. Food is excellent and diverse and the presentation is lovely.    [25 Nov 2006 17:25:07]

FABULOUS
Don't bother? says Sour Grapes! What hole has the first evaluator been hiding? The Vintage Press is absolutely just about the only restaurant where my husband and I will eat. We have eaten there probably a hundred times and drive an hour just to have lunch or dinner. David, the chef/owner will do anything for his customers. The food is outstanding and the presentations are delightful. I take every visiting friend to the Vintage Press and they are equally impressed.

The "prejudiced" hostess was a lovely, classy lady; unfortunately she passed away late last year. Also, about the servers. We have had nothing but excellent, attentive servers, everytime we eat at the Vintage Press. We did however, prefer a specific waiter; in our opinion, he was flawless. Unfortunately, he was killed in a tragic accident a couple of months ago. As every restaurant owner knows, hiring and keeping good help is difficult. All of the servers are clean cut, which is a must for me. It could be that a server called in sick the night the above evaluators didn't receive good service and they were short handed. My philosophy is, if it is lousy the first time, never go back. But, I would have to change my mind for this restaurant. It is certainly worth visiting.
One of my favorites is the Chile Rellenos. David always makes it for me with feta, because I don't care for goat cheese. The smoked chicken stuffed mini pumpkins are a must during the late fall. We evaluate every dish, every time, and the overall ratings for us is close to a ten every time. Sorry, this is long, but I feel I must defend a fabulous restaurant because there simply are NONE of them around. And NO, I don't know David/owner personally. But, he does visit his tables often and we talk to him briefly then. A very dedicated chef. A classy restaurant filled with beautiful, colored leaded glass windows and white linens. A must to partake when visiting Visalia.    [11 Mar 2007 23:01:35]

A Wonderful Experience
We arrived for dinner just before our reserved time and were promptly seated outside as we requested for the reservation. The service was excellent, the food was absolutely some of the best we have ever had, and we have traveled widely, and the wine selection was very broad and reasonably priced. We cannot think of anything that could be improved!    [01 Apr 2007 16:34:54]
