Management is not kind if you have problems with your meal! My visit to Farleys Chophouse in Frisco started pleasantly, but ended in disaster. I came to Farleys looking for a good steak and salad. I started with a good wine and ordered a sirloin, medium rare. Everything went fine until the steak came out...cooked well done and tough with side of asparagus. I returned the steak in order to get it cooked medium-rare and requested another vegetable in the meantime. Farley's had no other vegetable options to choose from. Then I waited for the steak. After about 15 minutes I checked with the waiter on my steak since medium rare should not be cooked this long. He said it be another minuted and then immediately after that the steak showed up. However, it was cooked medium and still bone dry. I decided at that time that this steak was not for me and returned the steak and asked to pay for my wine. The waiter apologized and said the steak looked OK in the light back in the kitchen, but then told to me to go ahead and leave. I insisted on paying for the wine, but the waiter again said it was OK. I would left pleasantly at this moment just thinking the steak issue was just not meant to be and how kind that they comped me for my wine.
Then the fiasco happened which changed my opinion entirely...I was a half a block from the restaurant when I was chased down by the manager and another waitress accusing me of walking out on the bill. I explained what happened and was told that I still had to pay for the wine. I agreed since I had offered before the waiter had let me go, but as I proceeded back into the restaurant, the manager then told me that the steak I ordered was fine and that I needed to see it in the light of the kitchen (not the regular restaurant lighting) and indicated that if it was OK in the kitchen light then I should pay for the meal (which I still rejected). I was appalled by this and told the manager that I will not inspect the food again, let alone pay for a meal I did not eat and returned twice! I proceeded back out the restaurant and was chased and yelled at again for skipping out on the meal. After this scene, the waiter finally came out and explained that he did allow me to go, but the manager continued to yell at me in front of the restaurant. Finally, the waiter said I could go and had to drag the manager back inside...still yelling at me. What a mess!
If I was left to leave I would have still had a good comment on this restaurant since the wine and atmosphere was good until management became unruly! After this tale, I hope patrons can be aware that if you have a food issue...be prepared for disaster. I recommend avoiding this place and head about 4 blocks up Main Street to the Blue Spruce Restaurant for a good steak. [30 Jun 2008 09:26:24]
