Sophisticated elegance
The Filet Wellington is perfect, but any choice is extrememly safe. The choice of different dining rooms/areas lend themselves well to the supurb serving staff and outstanding quality.    [04 May 2001 10:37:33]

A Friday Lunch Celebration
Three of us made our annual trip to the Briarwood for an elegant lunch, celebrating one of our birthdays. Our service was superb and our food eye-appealing as well as delicious. We, again, had their Prime Rib meal, with its' spinach salad, mashed potatoes, and great mixed veggies. My only recommendation would be that the food be hotter, as well as the plates, and a more interesting bread served than the cold, sliced loaf. We shared a dessert that was to die for -- a Choc/Fresh Raspberry Torte (or cake) that had a mousse consistency. Oh, so good!! We will definitely return to this charming place!!    [15 Jun 2002 08:35:19]

What a letdown!
Four of us went to dinner on Jan. 6th 2004 and found the service less than satisfactory and the food lacking. The veal with hollandaise was so overwhelmed with the sauce there was no taste - the coconut prawns lacked flavor and the prime rib was tough and lacking in juice. The desert tray consisted only of fruit and four pieces of cake so dry that only coffee could help. I am not sure what happened but as a customer that has been there before - this time was the last time!    [08 Jan 2004 14:08:50]

Bad Frozen Meals
Twice I have been to the Briarwood and twice I have had a bad meal. Once I ordered a meal with prosciutto and the meat was bad. Sent back and ws served another worst than the first. Only apology, chef was embarrassed. Dec 9/03 group of 22 for Christmas lunch and the veal parmesan was burned to a crisp on the edges. Considering the cost of their entrees, I would not go there again for a frozen meal!    [09 Jan 2004 13:03:30]

Romance at its Best
I live in Missouri and have been to the Briarwood twice. The first time was 5 years ago in December 98 for dinner after our private wedding ceremony. I have fonder memories of our dinner, than the ceremony. The restaurant was beautiful, the service wonderful, I couldn't have chosen better. The second time was for our five year anniversary Dec of 03. I was thrilled to find the restaurant just as I remembered it. So many places are constantly trying to improve on what already works, only to ruin what they have. The automatic appetizer and dessert tray of mini-selections is inspired. I'm not sure about some of the selections for things to spread on the crackers, but then I'm picky and my husband seemed to love them. I mean to me duck liver just doesn't belong in anything including Pate. The only complaint I might have on the dessert tray is a request for a few more of the to die for toasted banana's to be added. I could happily eat a dozen. I have had the Australian Lobster both times and was thrilled.

For the price you would pay for a single common Maine lobster in many restaurants you get two Australians at this one. My husband had the elk medallions the first time and one of the steaks the next time, no complaints on either. Also, my husband is very particular about where we sit in a restaurant. When I made the reservations I gave them his preference and when we arrived that is exactly what we had, and our appetizer was even waiting on our table. We plan to move to Colorado shortly and I look forward to many more anniversary and special events celebrated there. It should also be noted that I have ate at many of the best restaurants in the country, including Tony's of St Louis which has previously had a 5 star rating and is known world wide.    [20 Oct 2004 12:21:09]

Great Ambiance, OK Food
My first time at the Briarwood, which is fix prix dining setup--you select the main course and the rest of the courses are included.

Appetizers were good (large shrimp plus various dips) with the exception of the pate' (too dry) and the cheese one (like the port flavored cheese spread at the local grocer's). Spinach salad very good.

Main courses variable: filet Wellington--no duxelles (mushroom stuffing) noted, pastry good, meat OK, "sauce bordelaise" abysmal; Rocky Mtn rainbow trout was good; Medallions Briarwood sampler was OK (filet bordelaise was a miss).

Dessert is a large plain fresh fruit presentation with some dried cake/brownie offerings--very anticlimatic; additional desserts ordered were nothing to write home about. A nice cheese selection would be a great addition to the fresh fruit offering. Very good wine list.

First rate wait staff.    [28 Dec 2004 20:08:34]

Absolutely Fantastic!
If you have not gotten the chance to see Briarwood at Christmas you are surely missing out. This is one of the most beautiful restaurants I have ever seen. The 17 foot Christmas tree makes for the perfect family photo-op. The service has been nothing less than outstanding and it it a true dining experience. Highly recommended.    [15 Dec 2006 17:02:00]
