WOO WOO This restaurant is great! I wish there was one in Summit County! We always have our work parties here and I am always amazed at how well we are accommodated! Thanks to James and his wife for the excellent food and fun! [31 Aug 2002 01:14:50]

Best Green Chili EVER!!! In the Southwest, a cook's green chili recipe can make a restaurant famous. For that reason alone, I can't understand why people from every sage-covered state aren't stampeding to Leadville! I ordered the Stuffed Sopapilla Especial, with green chili on the side. The platter that emerged from the kitchen was humongous, piled high with what must have been several pounds of food (for only $9!). I only wish I'd gotten two cups of chili...one to smother the sopapilla with, and the other to enjoy on its own. Chunks of tender pork loin mingled with home-roasted green chiles and onions in a delicious stock. It was amazing.
The views of the mountains from the back deck are stunning -- especially at sunset. Leadville is a great (though under appreciated) town, and is Colorado's highest city at 10,200 feet. My only complaint is that another time I visited this restaurant, the service was abysmal. After being seated outdoors, we didn't see a server for 20 minutes...I had to ask the hostess twice to have someone bring us menus. At the end of the meal, it took 30 minutes for our check to arrive. Also, watch out if you're offered re-fills on your "complimentary" chips and salsa; the second round will cost you! Despite these problems, the food at The Grill is worth the visit, as well as the wait. [25 Jan 2003 16:31:42]

We LOVE the Grill It's a bit of a wait - to get a table 'cause everyone in town wants to eat here. Then they cook everything, not microwave it. It's hard to find such good home cooking, and food with such flavor. If you want GOOD Mexican food, go to Colorado, go to Leadville, go to the Grill. Ask anyone in town where it is, they'll tell ya you picked the right restaurant in Leadville! [14 Apr 2003 21:20:46]

Great Grill Have been enjoying the pleasures offered at the Grill for nearly 30 years now. The place has been updated and a deck with great mountain views has been added but one thing has remained the same all these years: the food. The Grill's Mexican recipes were developed a long time ago and there has been no reason to try to improve what is already perfect. The green chile, regular and vegetarian, is the absolute best this Mexican food lover has tasted anywhere in the world. And from simple burritos and enchiladas to the fabulous stuffed sopapillas, the selections are all routinely delicious. How the Martinez family has maintained the consistent high quality of the their food is a wonderment, but they have succeeded in doing so from the beginning.
Service can vary, however, as the restaurant can become extremely busy in a moment's notice as I'm not the only one who thinks the place is fantastic. Small mountain communities, which Leadville is, have a limited ability to staff good restaurants and it is hard to find quality help sometimes. I do know that James and Linda make every effort possible to ensure that your dining experience is a pleasurable one. Two thumbs up! [15 Apr 2003 12:29:25]

The food is great! The atmosphere changes with the faces of the guests. Sometimes it is a great party atmosphere when somebody is celebrating a special occasion, or just busy because it is the best Mexican food in Colorado! My favorite is the green chili, anything with green green chili, especially the chicken sopapilla smothered in green chili. The margaritas are superb, my "gold standard" to judge margaritas. The hosts, James and Linda, The Martinez family, make you feel like family! Definitely worth the wait on a busy night. I'd drive, fly a thousand miles just for dinner at the grill! Best Green Chile in the Universe! The Grill has the BEST GREEN CHILE anywhere. It is great with huevos and beans, over a stuffed sopapilla, atop an enchilada or burrito or simply as a meal by itself. I often drive over 100 miles just to savor a Grill meal and I buy their green chile by the gallon!
Leadville is a unique place; the scenery is fabulous, the people are interesting, and there are great places to ski, ride, cruise, hike, and play all year long. The Grill is a great place to eat and enjoy. Come hungry; you'll leave happy!
Thank you James and Linda for keeping the food delicious, the drinks tasty, the atmosphere friendly, improving the menu and keeping the restaurant open in diverse and unpredictable conditions! They and their staff work very hard to serve a satisfying and delicious meal.
I also enjoy the outstanding artwork on the walls and throughout the restaurant. [20 Apr 2003 16:47:39]

The Best! You can't find better Mexican food, and I have never finished a full meal (LOVE those leftovers). I get through an ala carte item or 2 and I have had dinner for under $6! I have NOT had slow service. I am so glad it's not microwaved and will wait long enough for REAL food to bake!
Margaritas are full of liquor and reasonably priced and BIG! Go there & nowhere else will do [18 Jan 2005 23:33:13]
