Yes, it's the gloopy cheese school of Mexican cooking, but it's done well, and in an appealing atmosphere. - CitySearch, Susan Permut; Review - suggest change

MMMMM-GOOD I had ordered 2 smothered burritos - when they came to the table, the dish was overflowing with food, and there were only 2 burritos on the plate. Excellent food, plenty of it, at an affordable price. :) Thanks [05 Nov 2002 22:31:05]

Great Local Spot 12/26/02 - My wife called and said her and our two boys were coming to my office for lunch and that they wanted Mexican food; where should we go? I am new to this area so I relied on the internet. I found this restaurant and read the 1 review; sounded good so we went for it.
This is just the kind of corner, hometown place we were looking for. Good food, good atmosphere, friendly service, and decent prices. This restaurant is located in a shopping center and has a sports bar hooked on to it, so at first glance you dont think of good mexican food, but we reccomend giving it a go.
We were greeted immediately with homemade chips and salsa (salsa was very good, but too hot for my 5 and 7 year old, which is usually the case anywhere). The menu had a lot of choices. My wife had the tamale plate, my kids had the cheese enchilada kids plate with fries instead of rice and beans, and I chose the crispy chile rellanos plate. My wife had red chile, I had the green chile and we ordered a side of guacamole, so we had a good sampling of some of thier food. Everything was great except the guacamole, I guess I am just spoiled with my wife's homemade, but it was too creamy for our liking and very bland in flavor. The enchalada sauce was wonderful, my kids even dipped thier french fries in it and they usually complain about other sauces at other restaurants. My chile rellanos were done perfectly, very flavorfull. My wife's tamales were done great and the red chile was wonderful also. The rice and beans were very flavorful and went with the dishes nicely, (my wife commented that she wished they put a little more on your plate; her favorite)but we were completely stuffed upon leaving. Our waiter was very friendly, smiling wide, and treating us as if we had been coming there for a long time; taking time to make some small talk to make us feel welcome while still being respectful. I agree with the previous review that all the dishes were "cheesy and saucy", but I dont think they over did it. Very good food.
I will definately be going back now that I know the place exists and will take business clients there whenever the call is for Mexican food. [26 Dec 2002 15:04:00]
