Description

Eleni's is a little bit of Greece in Paonia - "Food from Mt. Olympus and Beyond." The menu includes a variety of traditional Greek and Mediterranean foods, including souvlaki, tsaziki, huumus, spanakopita, tarama, Greek salad, tabouli, gyros, kalamari, moussaka, pasticio, dolmas and avgolemono soup.

Lunch and dinner specials include grilled salmon, halibut, lemon chicken, lamb, lasagna (not Greek, but an Eleni special), pesto pasta and fresh local produce. A local favorite is sweet potato fries. If you're new to Greek food, try the Aegean platter with an assortment of Greek appetizers.

The bakery counter offers pastries like baklava, lemon bars, chocolate ganache torte, brownies and cheesecake. Deli items include a selection of olive oils, Eleni's mustards, Greek olives and Bulgarian sheep's milk feta.

The venue is decorated in Greek style with white-washed walls and an outdoor patio with a mister for hot summer days. Full bar has wine list, specialty drinks and Greek spirits and Eleni's "[mar]tinis" like apple-tinis, raspberry-tinis and blueberry-tinis.

Eleni's occasionally has live music during holidays and festivals, poetry readings and other specialty events, including a Greek Independence Day party in March (complete with belly dancers).

I love this place!
I have had the pleasure of eating at Eleni's Uptown on multiple occasions and have never been disappointed. Greek food at its best. Eleni herself is a friendly hostess who often leaves the kitchen to greet her guests. For after-theater treats, try the blueberry-tini (martini) and a basket of sweet potato fries.    [11 Oct 2005 17:38:14]
