Poor Service
Yesterday, Sunday, Ground Hog Day, six of us went to dinner at this place. We were told that the computers were not working and things were going to be a slow. We accepted that fact. The orders had to be hand written. We accepted that fact. I had ordered a second drink during the course of the dinner. It took 15 minutes to get to the table. Now, I don't care if the computers are working or not, it does not take 15 minutes to get from our table to the bar and back with my drink. Very poor service. When our dinner finally arrived (and we accepted the delay due to the computers) it was brought not by our server, but by two other servers. As a result, they put the food down and left in a hurry without asking if there was anything else we needed. Eventually, our server showed up and asked if everthing was all right. I was half way through my meal at the time (salmon and it was good) but I asked for some parmesan cheese. The server told me that if they had any, it would be over at the salad bar. Implying that I should get up and get it myself. I was seat in a booth of six up against the wall. I was not about to ask two people to get up and let me out. Nor was I going to ask the person on the end to go over and get me some. As a result, I never did get any cheese. Needless to say, I am very displeased with the service and the attitude of the server and has made for interesting discussion at the office this morning. I guess I would like to get some sort of comp for the sour service I was given.    [03 Feb 2003 11:58:08]

Dakota Reality
From the moment Dakota opened in Avon it has been a busy place to dine. As residents of Avon we frequently use the facility. The prices are very competitive, the food quality reasonably good based on the price and since we are on a very low fat diet with a little imagination we can minimize the cholesterol count. For example: We bring our own nonfat sour cream and "Spectrum" spread for the bread. Occasionally when Bison is available (this being a very low fat protein.) we get a treat.
While we have never found a restaurant anywhere in the country that bothers to understand the need to cater to the low fat market segment, we can’t fault Dakota for providing margarine in the mistaken belief that it is a healthy substitute for butter.
Service quality does vary. Servers appear very quickly to get your order but after the meal is brought to the table some servers seem to disappear. Dakota uses a shared tip concept which may contribute to loss of attention once the meal is served.    [20 Sep 2003 10:45:07]

Dakota is my favorite restaurant in all of CT. Its food is spectacular and the salad bar is my all time favorite. I believe that Dakota's salad bar is the best salad bar I have ever been to.    [08 Nov 2003 16:54:07]

Dakotas is great!
My family and I usually go to Dakotas anually for our birthdays, and we always go back. The service has always been great, and the food just as delightful. I don't know how anyone could have a bad mood eating in a place with such a great atmosphere, especially if you sit near one of the fireplaces. Everything there is excellent, and if you have had a bad experience, then don't let that stop you from going back. I personally guarantee that it will be better next time, and every time after that.    [16 Dec 2003 22:21:00]

Fabulous Salad Bar and Value
It's amazing how much high quality food you get for so little money at Dakota. The salad bar features organic/local vegies when possible. Rather than be laden with hi-cal, icky items (like macaroni salad), it has specialty items like watercress and sunflower sprouts. The beef is excellent, though they tend to overcook it.
My only grumble is the puny size of mixed cocktails.
Kids never tire of the authentic western decor and artifacts.    [02 Apr 2004 18:00:09]

Find Another Place to Eat
Went to Dakota's with some friends 12/9/06. Both couples have been there before, enjoy the salad bar and even the steaks. While there our Waiter "MIKE" was a bit in the "weeds" (wasn't too helpful, wasn't really there). We ordered our drinks, one of which was a Black and Tan, didn't have two of the darker beers ordered, he came back to tell us both times. Then finally ordered our appetizers, Mike came back and told us they didn't have anymore of one of the appetizers. Ordered our steaks, then had the good salad bar. While we ate our salads the meals came and then we asked for two glasses of water, never received them, then had to ask another waitress for our waters. SHE finally gave them to us. One of the steaks was actually asked to be medium, it was crawling off of the plate, the other steak asked for well done it looked like a long hotdog steak, that was not cooked correctly. Never cleared our dishes from the appetizers so we ended up putting dishes on the floor! Then we asked for another type of drink and was told yes we make them, then "Mike" came back and said "Oh we don't make those, they are actually copyrighted by another restaurant". HA! We continued to dessert, which was okay. All in all, it was not a good night and we won't be back anytime soon, that's for sure.    [11 Dec 2006 10:50:23]
