A New England Tradition Wonderful Service, in a beautiful historic Inn. Everyone in our party of eight loved their appetizers, meals, and desserts. We followed dinner with drinks and sing along in the crowded tap room. It was a perfect evening with friends. We’ve also had the hunt breakfast many times, and have been very pleased each trip. Over done The Gris use to be a hunker done spot with decent ambience. Now they're trying too hard to be something they are not. Fine dining? Nope. Wine bar? - Nope. Hang out spot? - Nope.
There are too many other great spots in the area for me ever to go back to The Gris. Now downtown Essex is beautiful and worth the trip, but skip this place. [19 Apr 2006 12:30:26]

A classic New England experience In business for 230 years, the "Gris" is exactly what I thought New England Inn should be. They now have two restuarants, the main dining room with traditional American food and a beautiful new Wine Bar with small plates you share...try the local scallops! After dinner, the taproom is a lively place for drinks and singing. Do not miss this place! [26 Oct 2006 18:15:30]
