Description
J. Gilbert's main fare is their specialty steak, but also serve chicken dishes, fish, etc. Atmosphere is cozy, on the border between casual and dressy (though I've seen all sorts there). Food is a little pricey, but not outrageous.

J. Gilbert's Wood-Fired Steak I haven't had any dish there that I didn't like. Start with the homemade Maytag Blue Potato chips, covered in melted blue cheese. Have a salad, if you like, then go for the steak, marinated for weeks, then peppered and cooked over a wood fire. Best steak I've had! I've also tried chicken dishes there, with equal excellent results.
Service is always prompt and friendly, even when the restaurant is packed! And it usually is, so reservations are highly recommended. The ambient noise sometimes gets a little loud, just because they can pack quite a number of people into their space. The prices can also be a little on the high side. But for the food and service... it's worth it! [03 Dec 1999 13:11:18]

J Gilbert's- Great for special occasion My boyfriend and I went here for our first anniversary last year and loved it. Because they knew it was a special occasion, they put confetti on the table! The food was spectacular! Great caesar salad and the steak was delicious. Good service, good ambience. Dinner for two without drinks was $75 (without tip). [24 Jan 2005 18:06:43]

Always a special occasion This is where I go when I want to celebrate. The food and service is top-notch. I have tried many of their meals and every one was a winner. The only thing better than the entrees are the desserts. [06 Jul 2005 14:21:31]

Not that Great! My wife and I went there for an anniversary and were quite disappointed. The waiter was polite but not very efficient. The shrimp appetizer was very good. He then brought us half salads, which were for an adjacent table. He did bring the correct salads after we brought the problem to his attention. The entree order was misplaced and it took over a half hour after our salads were finished to get our steak entrees. When the entree were brought out, he served a baked potato instead of the scalloped potatoes I had ordered. We were told that the kitchen was busy, because of a private party. The waiter offered a free dessert for the mixups. The restaurant was quite loud, the food was just average and overpriced. The service was disappointing. It was just "not that great". Awesome every time I love this place. The food is incredible. My steak is never overcooked, but once my husband's was and they were ALL OVER correcting it. The manager came by to make sure it was okay. Service is very attentive and genuine. Too expensive for us to frequently dine, but is always our choice for birthdays and anniversaries. (free dessert!)
