Great, interesting food, cool atmosphere - you think you're in Manhattan not Middletown. Interesting mix of professors and funky arts types.

Neat different beers, but my friends were also delighted with the martinis.

I'm going back tonight!    [11 Mar 2006 11:49:27]

Very nice
I was impressed with just about everything at Forbidden City. The atmosphere is very sophisticated and the plating is exceptional.
I had the Hong Kong Dim Sum which was delicious, my one complaint was that the spring roll was greasy but it is a small flaw.
My husband had the volcano flank steak which had a nice amount of heat.
For dessert we shared a grand marnier chocolate ganache which was very good.
Service was efficient, not great. I had to wait a long time for my coffee refill and it took too long to get our check.
This is still a work in progress but impressive none the less.    [27 Aug 2006 23:02:37]

WOW!!
Formerly from Glastonbury, but now from Austin, Tx. This place is upscale and more in line with what we have in Austin than what you would expect in Middletown. This is like an upscale P.F. Chang. Great atmosphere and food. It is a bit on the Yuppie side but not offensively so. It is expensive if you think of it being a Chinese Restaurant, but in line with a P.F. Chang style bistro. (portions are generous).    [13 Oct 2006 10:30:24]

Recommended Dishes: Steamed Red Snapper, Scallops, and Volcano beef were the dishes we had. All great. Just watching the other tables, the entrees all looked great.

Marvelous
Went in Oct. 2006. Elegant dining and delicious food. The Edamame dumplings were so wonderful, I can still taste them. My wife had a pomegranate martini and I had a cocoanut-south seas martini, both were perfect. The Peking Duck was unusual and generous (enough for a doggie bag and lunch at work the next day). Quality coffee and desert too. This is the best Chinese I've had in Connecticut.    [06 Nov 2006 14:28:13]

My Forbidden City Experience
I ate at Forbidden City on December 17th 2006 with my girlfriend. We both agree that the food was the best we've ever had for oriental cuisine. The atmosphere was very nice as well. The menu prices were very reasonable for a restaurant with such good food and atmosphere. We will definately come back but not too often. We like martinis and found Forbidden City to charge about $4.00 more per martini than the average price. $12.00 for a Grey Goose martini is pretty ridiculous. If someone wants to email us and let us know when these prices come down to a reasonable level, we would be glad to visit Forbidden City soon.    [18 Dec 2006 10:54:34]

Cobalt
I've eaten here twice, most recently 1/07. The food is great, portions are smaller than usual for a Chinese restaurant, but I like having a normal size meal instead of the gargantuan portions that have become routine. Sophisticated atmosphere.    [14 Feb 2007 21:46:39]

Good Food and atmosphere
I ate here at around 3 pm during the week and was pleased with the atmosphere but the service left alot to be desired. With no other customers I had to wait to be seated and the food was delivered by the dish washer. The food was excellent and but one martini cost the same price as the meal. I will return but will not purchase and spirits.    [10 Apr 2007 18:49:41]
