Great Authentic Mexican Food My husband and I have frequented this restaurant, driving from downtown New Haven to get some of the most authentic mexican food in New Haven County. We moved here from San Diego, where we used to often travel across the border for "real mexican food". So far, Guadalupe la Poblanita has made the grade..and incredibly clean (nothing like a taco stand in Mexico!) We've had their chicken and beef tacos, which are rolled up in corn tortillas just like in mexico. Their homemade guacamole that they serve alongside their 3 different hot sauces with chips is great. Seems to be store bought chips, which is disappointing, but slather with guac' and salsa and it's delightful. The chicken soup is so comforting and tastes just like it does coming from a kitchen in Mexico. The Mole Chicken my husband loves! Not too sweet...the best he's had in New Haven. Overall, if you want some good, no frills mexican food check it out. Oh, and our favorite "Sangria" (soda) that I used to get in mexico as a child...brings back all the good times. Recommended Everything (almost) is fresh and wonderful and not remotely like Taco Bell. My signifigant other has high praise in particular for their stuffed peppers and chicken mole. The one exception to the superlatives is their chips, which are clearly mass-produced and slightly stale -- and yet served with a variety of fresh salsas plus guacamole: go figure.
They also have an excellent selection of beers, Mexican and non.
Closed Tuesdays. Warning: they close early if business is slow! [16 Oct 2005 13:43:43]
