New Owner, Same great Food
The look and ambiance is the same but the menu is all new. That isn't a bad thing even though the food here was fabulous before the change.
What I like is that is isn't quite as formal or expensive but the food and desserts were exceptional.    [23 Jul 2005 19:43:33]

Lets Eat
Undoubtedly the best food in Old Saybrook if not even Middlesex County. Lunch and dinner are wonderful. Must check it out.

Delicious but wait staff needs additional training
I went with a group of my old friends to Nancy's last night. The food was wonderful but the waitstaff really needs some help. We had to ask for menus and no one asked if we would like to start off with a cocktail. The waitress told us about the specials and was ready to take our food order. I did not like the service at all....dirty plates stayed at the table much too long. To spend that kind of money on a meal, the service needs to go along with it.

Our very first choice
My husband and I love this restaurant. The food is excellent as is the staff but the most stellar piece to this equasion is the owner who greets and treats every customer as if she tryly appreciates his choosing her restaurant. We take many guests there as well as our daughter & husband from NYC who say it is up there with any of the finest restaurants in NYC and our son from Boston.    [13 Jul 2007 13:13:09]

The diamond on the beach
Outstanding. Nancy is a gem. Atmosphere is inviting, menu fantastic and tempting and the food is divine. This is a must do and certainly a "Diamond on the Beach"    [07 Sep 2007 09:36:53]

Don't Bother
After reading the great reviews here, my husband and I headed there on a Friday night. The decor and ambiance are inviting. The service was good, but the menu was limited and expensive, with the cheapest entree at $19.99 being chicken parmigiana. The menu is very traditional and heavy, which is fine if the food lives up to expectations. Everything, including the bread and the green beans, were either buttery or oily. While the entree portions were good-sized and the the food was very fresh, the dishes were uninspired and bland. Unless, you like fresh pepper on everything, don't expect much flavor. My husband has now sworn off ever getting anything "Francaise" having tried the special and it being a congealed, tasteless glob atop his fish.
For the money, we should have kept heading down the road to some truly great restaurants.    [08 Jun 2008 10:11:43]
