Best Onion Rings in the Area From the mouth of an Innkeeper and some one that has tried most of the local restaurants, I can say that Penny Lane Pub has the best onion rings that I have had in a very long time, the chipotle mayo they serve with them has just enough heat to tickle your tongue without burning your taste buds off. Great atmosphere with a casual feel, an attentive staff without being intrusive. Great outdoor seating in the summer time, if they would only ask their customers not to smoke.

yum! One of my favorite resturants in the area very calming ambiance. The food was hot out of the kitchen. The salads are fresh and green. The service is quick and the servers are friendly. [08 Sep 2005 14:31:47]

Best Casual Restaurant Around This restaurant/pub is what the shoreline truly needed- casual/pub fare as well as more gourmet dishes. The atmosphere is easy, the service is great and the restaurant even takes reservations- a rarity in these parts. [06 May 2006 12:58:03]

Will Return My husband and I were hunting for a spot new to us for lunch...voila! The Penny Lane Pub was right there in Old Saybrook, with a very attractive exterior. We were delighted to find such a diverse menu. I had shepard's pie, my husband had bratwurst...both very good. The service was excellent..we wish we could move the pub to Niantic, a place in dire need of restaurants. [25 Oct 2006 07:36:06]

Tasteless, tasteless, tasteless I gave the Pub one more try and the only thing that changed was we were waited on this time. We started with the spinach and artichoke dip,not good. Tasted of cream and not cheese, it was very bland. Moved to a Burger for her and a "seasoned Rib-eye for me. With all the talk around of The best Burger around, it was a flop. For a char broiled burger to have no flavor at all is a mystery to me. My steak with Mashed potatoes was just as bad. First off why in the world would the chef plop the mashed potatoes on top of the sauted vegtables, that was awlful. The steak was not rubbed with spices and was just plain boring.
