Good but Uneventful and Predictable
When I go out for dinner, I like to get a meal that's better than what I can prepare myself at home. Saybrook Fish House is good but unexceptional. It's a great place for groups, and its family style salads and fruit bowls are a wonderful feature. But the entrees are "nothing special" and I think they're overpriced for what you get. Preparation is "basic," that is, fried, broiled, etc., without those exquisite combinations of sauces and ingredients that make other seafood restaurants so desirable.    [02 Mar 2007 15:21:11]

As first time diners at the Saybrook Fish House, my husband and I were impressed at the start. We like that we had our own pitcher of water on the table, delicious bread basket and what seemed to be quick service. Our Calamari appetizer was very good. The salad was excellent. Our meal was good but the Seafood Combo I ordered came without the scallops that were listed in the description on the menu. When our server came by our table I started to ask about it but she wasn't paying attention and walked away. At the end of our meal I asked her to wrap the leftovers for me. I did intend to let her know that the scallops were missing. However she didn't return. We waited several minutes and finally my husband found her and asked her about the wrapped food. She reacted as though she had indeed forgotten and ran to the kitchen. (At this point I admit I wondered just what she would wrap because I was pretty sure she had forgotten and tossed the leftovers) We waited another 10 minutes for her to return with the bag. She never did. We finally asked another server to go to the kitchen and tell her to forget it, we had to leave. We left.
As much as I enjoyed the food we did have as well as the little touches like the fruit basket and the damp towels, I don't know that I would return to give it another try.    [01 Mar 2008 23:08:08]
