Inconsistent
Let me begin by saying that I've dined at Burton's about a dozen times. My most enjoyable experiences were during the summer, when we were seated outdoors and could fully appreciate a cold bowl of gazpacho with a glass of crisp, dry Sauvignon Blanc from it's incredible menu of 99+1 wines. The atmosphere is nice, service is always great, BUT there is variability in the quality of the food. The biggest drawback (which other friends have also experienced, and which we have brought to the chef's attention, but to no avail) is that much of the food is oversalted to the point of being nearly inedible. In times when people are health conscious and watching sodium intake, heavy salting of foods is inexcusable. Is it really necessary to encrust baked potatoes in salt? Ditto for the porkchops. One of the scampi/pasta entrees I had weren't up to par at all. The shrimp had an off-taste--something between musty basement and dirt (which is typical of shrimp harvested in India)and to make matters worse, they were undercooked. I got the impression that they were not sauteed in the sauce, but rather, they were added as an afterthought. So the flavor of the sauce (which itself was unexceptional and too salty) didn't permeate them. The salads are good, though pricey--come on guys, this is South Windsor, not Greenwich--the crab cakes are a delight, and as another reviewer mentioned, the filet is also wonderful and cooked perfectly. The last time we dined at Burton's, the food was so disappointing that I swore I'd never go back again. But I'm sure I will--next summer, when I can sit outside with a bowl of gazpacho and a glass of cold white wine....    [02 Mar 2007 15:36:43]

Consistent in their inconsistency
I agree completely with the previous reviewer. We too have sworn never to return to Burton's. They are pricey for what they offer and are trying hard to be something they're not. Tonight the shrimp appetizer was absolutely terrible, it was soupy, sloppy and seemed to have been thrown together. The Olive Garden would have done a better job ! Our server was awful as well. She seemed bored and put out by our requests (which were minimal). We usually order the Pinatini and they are delicious...not tonight. We were told they changed the recipe, so we asked for the old recipe and two more disgusting drinks were brought to our table and the server never checked to see how we liked them. We didn't and at $9/drink we should not have had to pay for them, but we did. Where are the Managers??? I could go on and on, but I believe Burton's is cheap chain food posing as something upscale and sophisticated. we dine out a lot all over the Northeast and this place is not worth wasting money at.    [12 Jul 2007 22:12:46]

Bad Customer Great Place
I have been there only three times but plan to go many more. I have only sat at the Bar but have had excellent and entertaining service. The food that was recomended was fantastic. I as a customer have as much a responsibility as the restaurant in my dining experience. Did either of you bother to open your mouths or did you just leave complaining. The last time My wife and I went we waited for 20 minutes to get a seat at the bar and it was well worth it. I hope you dont go back...more room for me. Enjoy Olive Garden    [22 Jul 2007 17:08:41]

Delightful
My first visit we sat in the bar area, table for 4 although just 2 of us. Would suggest the table be for only 2 as we were right by the door to the outdoor dining. Drinks, Apps and Salads were our choice. Cheese plate was delish, but came with marinated onions? Not Almonds as described, and not enough bread/apricots to consume all cheese. Risotto balls, sounded great tasted like dust. No worries, the waitress was very accomodating and apologized more than once for the kitchen errors. Salads...tasty, but salty. Kudos to the bartender who made me the perfect pomegranate martini. Agree that it is pricy for a chain, but atmosphere was enjoyable enough for me to return and try entrees next time!    [19 Sep 2007 07:45:18]

Very good
My husband and I have been to Burton's twice - once for lunch and dinner. Both times, the food has been awesome. In fact, we are going there for dinner again on Saturday evening.    [20 Sep 2007 08:53:10]

I was just looking up the tel. # and came across some bad reviews so thought it was my duty to write my own. This place is great! Food, service & ambiance. It's great for a casual lunch, a romantic dinner or a business event.    [20 Sep 2007 18:51:31]
