Excellent food fine setting In addition to the standard Thai favorites, my husband the Asian food snob greatly appreciated the unusual regional cuisines offered. And the decor, with regional textiles, was a treat. [10 Sep 2006 18:41:27]

decor but no content Ambience & decor were a pleasant introduction, the food was tastily prepared, but the portions were comparatively small. Spring Rolls were all wrap with tiniest vegetable filling. Small cup of rice not enough even for our small serving of chicken massaman curry. Server thought all was ok. Stratford area has better alternatives. [04 Dec 2006 15:15:36]

Pleasant suprise Tasty well prepared meal, service was good, and the quiet atmosphere was refreshing. Very happy with the portion size and will definitely be visiting Lotus again. [21 Aug 2007 21:11:50]

Great little find Lotus is a little restaurant with a great atmosphere and awesome food. Try their Pineapple Fried Rice, it is our favorite dish. [27 Oct 2007 18:55:59]

Inconsistent After visiting the restaurant on multiple occasions, I am left with the impression of a mediocre Thai restaurant.
Aesthetically, Lotus is an attractive, petite store front restaurant with a modern Asian style. The staff is helpful but does not exude friendliness or interest in the restaurant or pleasing the customer. In short, they do the minimum they need to in order to get by.
Price wise, I find Lotus to be pricey for smaller sized portions as compared to other Thai resturants. A meal there can easily set you back roughly $25 per person if you enjoy having a full meal: starter, entree, and soft drink. If you add on dessert or alcohol you could get well above $40 a person.
The food, which I consider to be the most important component of any eatery,(you can get away with a lot in decor, service, and cost if you have killer food) is extremely inconsistent. On my first trip to the restaurant I ordered a curry and found it to be acceptable--it wasn't mindblowing, but it was solid. On my second trip, I ordered pad see-ew, a sweet soy noodle dish made with wide rice noodles, some veggies, and chicken or tofu. Generally, I find pad see-ew to be a great dish that gives you the flavors of fried rice with the smooth texture of the noodle. And on this occasion I was very impressed with their offering--the dish was spot on and managed to give you all the flavors without flooding it with oil ( a hazard with this dish in particular and indeed a great deal of Thai food in general). However, on my very next visit to the restaurant I ordered the same dish and it was awful. The noodles were drowning in a thick bath or oil which completely killed all the flavors. Ick. I also ordered pinapple fried rice which I found equally unappealing. Though, they managed to pull off a lovely order of mango with sticky rice, a common Thai dessert.
Overall, I am left feeling that this restaurant is so-so--it's costly, the service is acceptable but doesn't shine, and the food is completely inconsistent. Still, Lotus does have one thing going for it that may draw costomers back: the location. There are few ethnic restaurants (unless you count Italian restaurants as ethnic) in the Devon-Stratford area and even fewer Thai restaurants. So, if you are having a hankering for Thai and aren't interested in venturing into Orange, you may have a nice meal at Lotus--if they are having an on night. [19 Jan 2008 22:01:34]
