Description
The Connecticut adaptation of the famous New York City Oyster Bar. The menu offers both seafood and "not seafood" but the emphasis is clearly seafood. The wine list is extensive.

Best Food of the Maxes Having been to all 5 Max restaurants, this one stands out as offering the best food of the lot, but you have to love seafood. First, as a native Marylander, this is the ONLY place I've ever eaten at outside of Maryland where they make the Maryland crab cake correctly (it's an appetizer, and worth every penny). The menu had so many items I wanted to try, I need to go back. Appetizers, entrees, glass of wine, coffee and desserts cost about $100 for two of us. A little pricier than usual, but well worth it. Like most of the other Maxes, the service is ok, the ambience is noisy, and the seating is congested. I guess that should be expected for an "Oyster Bar." [02 Nov 2004 17:13:01]

the freshest oysters in Hartford Everytime I eat there I am overwhelmed with the quality of the shellfish. The only thing better than the food is the service and atmosphere. [21 May 2005 14:04:59]

Excellent waitress the first time. Rest of staff is okay. Soft shell crab entree was excellent, but we have had less luck with apps - the duck egg rolls were far too salty, however, the sweet potatoe ravioli with sage cream was sweetly spiced and delightful.
When meeting with my friend, we always meet at Max's for their amazing selection of fresh oysters and for white cosmopolitans. Even if we decide we want Mexican for dinner. [14 Jun 2005 10:33:45]

Fabulous lunch Even if you don't love seafood you can have a great lunch here. I had a wonderful salad with chicken, mozzarella, grape tomatos and delicious balsamic dressing. I am not a martini drinker but I tried a peach Bellini and it was yummy. It's all about presentation here and I was suitably impressed. Our waitress was every thing we could have asked for and even more. I would return here in a heartbeat. [27 Feb 2006 20:27:49]
