lots of mediocre sushi Don't bother if you've had the real thing. Good sushi begins with the rice, if you can't get that right, then the rest can't be much good either. [07 Oct 2003 17:42:02]

Not as bad as the last review... Ate at Osaka today for the first time in many years. For several years it was the only game in town. When the competition grew, I must admit that others outshined Osaka. On this revisit, I noticed that the restaurant itself is atmospherically a bit on the dull side but the music is pleasant as are the waitstaff. To my surprise the food was good and unlike the other reviewer, I do not care for white rice much, but I tasted it and it was just fine but agreed, maybe not outstanding. The edammame was salted nicely (not to much) and not overcooked, which I have had on occasion elsewhere. The sashimi was up to par (INMHO) as was the tempura which had a wonderful array of vegetable included with the reasonably priced (9.50 including a salad or soup and rice) chicken tempura dinner. Miso soup, another staple of the typical Japanese restaurant, was served hot and had terrific flavor, maybe better than most I have had (much to my surprise). Japanese restaurants are rarely known for their dinner salads and Osaka is no exception, but still the lettuce was fresh and the dressing was very tasty so I can't complain there either. Osaka's prices are much more competitive than its competition's prices so I really didn't expect much from my experience. Overall, once again to my surprise, Osaka is a pretty good value for the money. [27 Nov 2004 17:48:42]
