Washington Post Review - Washington Post Entertainment Guide, Fritz Hahn; After an extensive makeover, the Rooster is an L Street watering hole with nice touches, including stained glass and a long wooden bar. - suggest change
The Search For Good, Cheap Beer - The Hoya: (Georgetown University), Joe Harten, 26 January 2001; I left The Black Rooster Pub with a bad taste in my mouth, and it wasn’t from the Caffrey’s. - suggest change

Excellent Local Pub, Great Atmosphere My office crowd goes to the Black Rooster a couple of times a month for lunch, and we invariably have a great time and a great lunch. There is classic at-the-bar seating as well as tables, and the service is good and prompt, if not very formal.
There are daily "blue plate" specials, which generally are a really good deal and are true specials rather than just regular menu items gussied up. For example, the mozarella and prime-rib salad I had last week was excellent, served over nicely-done large garlic croutons.
The menu is standard pub fare, with the burgers and variations on reuben sandwiches being predominant. There are lighter salad and appetizer options, and a daily soup. The french fries are probably frozen, but are prepared very well.
This is a pub, so there are plenty of nice beers on tap, generally I'll have the Boddington's, which is an english pale ale. [21 Jun 2007 07:37:04]
