Description
Evoking the luxury of South Asia, Bombay Palace was the pioneer upscale Indian restaurant. Its set-price multicourse business lunches make it popular with downtown executives, including those in the nearby offices of the International Monetary Fund. Despite the sumptuous setting, however, the family-style dishes are reasonably priced, making this branch of the international chain appetizing to young couples and fans of Indian cuisine.

Good Choice This is a good choice for a wonderful dining experience. The service was excellent, the servers being very attentive to our needs. Just the right amount of food is served, family style allowing everyone to enjoy the wonderful dishes. [18 Jan 2001 20:36:01]

Formal Atmosphere, Good Food We met up with a friend at the Bombay Palace; it was on his recommendation that we ate here.
The service was impeccable, almost to the point of being too formal, but still quite friendly. We ordered a selection of items, including the Assorted Platter appetizer. Everything was tasty and well-prepared; the level of spiciness was just right for us.
The wine list was small, but fitting. I found a bargain Alsace Gewürztraminer that was delicious, and a perfect foil for the food.
For what is being offered at this restaurant, the dining experience was well-priced. I felt that we were getting a good value. [28 Apr 2003 21:04:14]

A truly amazing experience and atmosphere We have been to Bombay Palace about 3 times in the last month for lunch. Everybody at my work loved their food so more of us decieded to give it a try. We have not been disappointed. The service was attentive and food was served promptly so we all could easily eat and get back to the office within 45 minutes. I especially liked the "vegetable jalfrezie" and "pudina paratha." I would skip the desserts but after being served such big portions...it does not feel like a big loss. A few co-workers tried their "executive lunch entrees" and liked it a lot. [27 Dec 2003 18:40:48]

Saag and Vindaloo below average The service and ambiance were what I'd expect from a luxurious downtown restaurant. Service was extremely prompt during the dinner hour (about 6pm on a Tuesday). The prices were also reasonable, but that's what lured me in for what turned out to be disappointing flavors. I've had better food in Colorado. The saag paneer was a little oily. It tasted fresh, but I like mine creamier. The vindaloo chicken was bland (I didn't request extra hot, not that they asked.) The garlic nan, however, was delicious -- warm, fluffy, and flavorful. It's been several years since I've dined in D.C. This is the first time I have chosen to exclude sales tax when calculating my tip. Who wants to top on 10% sales tax anyway? [17 Jan 2006 19:28:24]
