One of the Worst Meals I've Ever Had If you're looking for a pleasant night out, avoid Cafe Sophia at all cost. My fiancee and I visited tonight and not one dish was close to edible. The cheese stuffed mushrooms were terrible and the stuffed red peppers were awful. The service was slow and a napkin had gum in it. Altogether one of the worst restaurants I've ever been to. Just Plain Wrong I have never even submitted a review for a restaurant before - anywhere - but feel so strongly that you should avoid this restaurant that I could not resist. Every dish ordered was swimming in oil and completely inedible, not to mention slow service, which is particularly upsetting when you want to leave as soon as possible. The dishes are also completely overpriced. I barely ate a thing but am taking a Tums as I type. [15 May 2004 00:14:06]

Cafe Sofia My boyfriend and I spent a very pleasant evening at Cafe Sofia. It won points on offering some unique dishes and a cozy, candlelit, friendly atmosphere, despite the linoleum floor and table tops. It has a nice bar and a few raised tables in the window, as well as several tables along the wall.
We started with warm Bulgarian cheese which was salty and tasty, though the bread it came with was cold.
Unfortuantely the main dishes were a disappointment - I had the vegetarian stuffed peppers which were over-cooked and stodgy, and he had the shrimp which were too oily. However, the menu has a number of other interesting looking dishes and I would try it again. It's also reasonably priced. [22 Dec 2003 15:53:17]

A Real Find Tipped off to this restaurant by my daughter, a vegetarian with well developed taste buds. A business colleague and I hailed a cab on a rainy night to find this restaurant. It was well worth the effort. The food was incredibly reasonable and delicious. I learned from my friend that Bulgaria, a country of only 8 million, was reported in the 1930s to have more centenarians in absolute numbers than any nation on earth. The secret - supposedly the yogurt central to Bulgarian cooking and so noticeable in the best dishes at Cafe Sophia. I have been back three times recently with another friend. Food A+ and service friendly with intelligent and lively servers. [06 Apr 2004 01:30:45]
Food: Service: Ambiance: Overall: Recommended Dishes: Yogurt, filo dough and cheese dish was quite tasty. Two fish dishes, trout and salmon, were exceptional. Best desserts we had were crepes, available in chocolate, with honey or with preserves. I liked the ones with preserves the most.
