In better days, hotel restaurants like the Jockey Club were the social center of Washington's elite. And there are yet a few loyal patrons, Georgetowners who come for Nancy Reagan's chicken salad at lunch and who congregate at the bar come evenings. Dark, quiet, and wood-paneled, the Jockey Club still exudes an air of the old Washington of cigars and brandy, especially during their richly apportioned holiday meals.
