Tourist Friendly & Food At Its best
Prime steak cooked to mouthwatering perfection accompanied by the house speciality beer ... what more needs to be said, other than the warmest of welcomes on a rainy October night made this a highlight of a visit from England. The ambience, greatly enhanced by the music, was superb and the attentive and efficient waitress made for a night to remember long after the flight left for Heathrow.    [29 Aug 2004 15:05:24]

The height of dining sophistication - in 1974
My parents tell me that in the late sixties and early seventies, this was considered fine dining, and known as a romantic little hideaway where members of Congress would take their "secretaries" for a quiet rendez-vous. It's still here in 2005, and I don't think the decor has been touched - including the infamous bar room, with lots of gauzy paintings of half-nude women. However, the food is suprisingly decent. All the basics are here - steak, seafood, etc., and the service is good.    [30 Mar 2005 11:36:30]

Best Comedy Club in Town!
Went to MI with folks in from out of town who had heard about the place's legend and were very excited to finally go there.

We had a round of martinis to open the celebration. They were warm and watery, but we were too psyched to complain.

Someone in the party ordered prime rib - a MI "specialty" - medium rare.

The steak arrived after a loong delay (they were quite busy, so again, no open complaints but some shifting in our seats), and when the patron cut into it - it was cooked all the way through (well done). Survey says....X!

No problem, right? Just send it back, right? The waitress complied apologetically, and we waited....and waited...and waited for a new prime rib cooked properly. Everyone proceeded to begin their meals, although reluctantly.

About halfway through the meal, the waitress returned, apologizing that "they were out of prime rib", offering a menu and an opportunity to order an alternative. Well at this point it makes no sense to order, since by the time another entree arrived, the dinner party would be well past finished - and the poor straggler would be left to dine alone with an audience.

So we asked to see the manager to get an explanation of this disaster.

Things spiral downward quickly.

He showed up after the diners' plates had been cleared, 15+ minutes later.

When we voiced our dissatisfaction, the manager was unapologetic and - amazingly - asserted that the original steak
*was* medium-rare, that the diner's perception was incorrect, and that it was just tough luck for the hungry diner.

At this point our table began to *roar* with laughter at the sheer incredulity of the situation, and even people at adjacent tables were openly mortified at the manager's complete indifference to the problem and open accusation that the diner did not know what he was talking about.

Ever have an experience that is so bad you just have to laugh? This was one of those.

So next time you consider going to a comedy club for some laughs, consider Market Inn in DC as a possible alternative.

Especially if you are on a diet.    [08 Mar 2007 16:24:51]
