Like a French stage setting, Matisse makes a surreal statement with its spacious dining rooms, curvilinear graphics and flowing designs. - Digital City - suggest change
In appearance and level of ambition, Matisse, an attractive restaurant that opened last year on Wisconsin Avenue in Tenleytown, would be as at home on K Street. - Washingtonian, Thomas Head, 0 July 2001 - suggest change
The French-Mediterranean cusine and faltering service aspires to live up to the standard of the fine wine list and sculptural decor. - Washington Post Entertainment Guide, Phyllis Richman - suggest change

Good new restaurant
I have eaten at Matisse twice now, both times at lunch. The food was well prepared in a French Bistro style. Sauces were light and flavor enhancing and food was tasty. Wine list is good, although in the upper price range. The restaurant ambience is very pleasant. While not inexpensive, it is definitely worth a visit.    [06 Apr 2001 15:50:30]

Amazing Experience
Matisse is a fantastic dining experience. Perfect for a chic lunch, romantic dinner or evening out with the girls. Matisse is most definitely my favorite restaurant in DC and for sure, a best kept secret. The evening specials always promise something unusal and delicious!    [04 Apr 2004 23:26:16]

overpriced and inconsistant 'French' food by Morrocan owners
Is it French?
Owners from Morocco and Swiss. Perfect for clients looking for cheaper options close to the Md line.    [03 Dec 2006 01:53:07]

Yumm!!
Matisse Is Definately my favorite restaurant in DC. The Mussels in white wine sauce are reminiscent of the Belgian original with perfect french fries, you can't go wrong! The service is prompt, and always pleasant. We are always welcomed with smiles, and we haven't found anything on the menu we dont like.. The brunch is delicious, call ahead to see if the jazz band is playing, and have the French Toast!! :)

Delicious!
Matisse is everything I look for in a restaurant, AMAZING food, beautiful atmosphere, and a great staff. My boyfriend and I bring our parents and guests when they're in from out of town, but we don't just keep it for special occasions - - the bar tables across the bar are cool and more casual and the perfect spot to get a good bite to eat before a movie and do some people watching.. Last time we were there Alan Greenspan sat next to us !! Bon Appetit !!    [29 Apr 2007 07:14:07]

Recommended Dishes: Matisse Pizza and Rack of Lamb for dinner, Beignets and French toast for Brunch! Mmmm...
