Capitol Hill Legend A Capitol Hill legend and tradition. One of the most DC experiences that there is. Classic Victorian pub decor in a building that has been there that long. Neighborhood joint -- this is the real thing.
A great place to have a beer and burger, great pub food and classic dark smoky atmosphere. Sit back and enjoy the company, friends, antique prints and memorabilia on the wall like Capitol Hill natives have been for decades.
Live music upstairs. [29 Jan 2004 17:56:14]

Great Neighborhood Place Great place for a good burger and beer. Also, other tasty items on the menu. Dont miss out on 1/2 price burger Mondays and the great brunch on Sundays with the huge belgian waffles. [17 May 2004 11:18:29]

No TV, doesn't need one! Not sure where the "Sports fans will enjoy the large-screen TVs in the bar area" came from, but there are no TVs anywhere in Mr. Henry's. This is a GOOD thing. What Mr. Henry's is about is atmosphere and company, good cheer and good drink, not mindless network chatter.
The reviewer who said "this is the real thing" nailed it on the head. This is a genuinely unique, Washington DC city joint, complete with locals, Hill staffers, and tourists, just blocks from the Capitol, and one block from the Eastern Market Metro station.
There is nothing "chain restaurant" about this place. From the ancient, wall-length benches along the walls (lined with decades-old velvet cushions that ooze character and sometimes spilled drinks) to the rickety chairs and red-checkered vinyl tabecloths, this is 100% non-suburban city neighborhood dining. It also has the distinction of being the first "gay" restaurant/bar in DC, in the sense that it has had gay owners since the beginning and has been welcoming gay and straight patrons alike for decades. This adds just one more layer to its diverse and eclectic clientelle which enriches the experience, since you are most likely going to strike up a conversation with your neighbors who will be cramped in tightly beside you.
If you want a real dining and social experience in DC, Mr. Henry's is the place to have it. [28 Jun 2005 00:22:34]
