Earlier this summer, I had a friend in town for the weekend, and I decided to take him to Oya for dinner. We arrived at the restaurant at 9:45 we did not have a reservation. The maitre’D assured us that she would be able to seat us at 10:30, and we can wait at the bar. I was able to secure a reservation at Indi Belu, but unwisely I decided to stay at Oya under the misconception that I was waiting to be served.

At 10:30 I was informed that the Kitchen now was closed. I was mistreated, lied to and insulted. I spoke to Amir the (manager) and expressed my frustrations and disappointment, to which he replied” sorry, there is nothing that I can do” when I requested to speak to the owner, the bar atender told me that he was available, then she spoke to Amir the (manager), and I was told that he was not in, he only comes to the restaurant once a week on Tuesdays.

My friend and I arrived at Oya hungry and left Oya, mistreated and hungry. By the time we left Oya all other restaurants in the area had stopped serving dinner. As a result, we ended up eating Pizza for dinner!

There are several new fine dining restaurants in DC, and I have been to all of them. If Oya is going to call itself “fine dining” Oya needs to revisit the training of its staff. Based on how I was treated, Oya should not consider itself in the same class as those other restaurants.

Up to this point I was a frequent visitor to Oya. Since this recent incident. I will never patronize Oya again.    [22 Aug 2006 18:21:33]
