Worst restaurant experience ever We came for lunch at 2pm because we were staying in the Marriott, so the restaurant was largely empty. Normally I am very forgiving of bad experiences if there is a rush or someone is new. But there was no reason for this kind of service.
First they brought us the wrong drinks. But the waiter didn't accept that it was the wrong drink - instead he challenged my ability to recognize what I was drinking. I actually had to argue. When I got the correct drink, I let it go.
Then they brought my mother the wrong soup. When she told them it was the wrong soup, they didn't immediately offer to bring the right soup, instead the waiter argued that she had gotten confused and ordered the wrong soup. She actually had to argue. He finally brought the right soup, and she loved it, so we let it go.
Then he brought my mother's house salad - a lovely if sparse combination of pears, walnuts and goat cheese in a spring mix. My mother's goat cheese had black mold on it. I brought it to the waiter's attention, and he argued that it was actually bleu cheese that had just fallen into the goat cheese bin.
Now, I cook A lot. And I am a cheese snob to boot. Thready black mold is not blue cheese. Especially not when it's on goat cheese. Still, he argued. My mother asked for another salad without cheese. I asked for the manager. Twice.
The manager finally arrived (after talking to the waiter first) and sustained his argument that it was bleu cheese. I was incredulous.
We actually received a full bill at the end of our meal. My mother complained and the bartender tore it up for us.
If they cannot keep their kitchen carefully enough to maintain cheese (or have the common sense to throw it out when it goes bad), I would not trust them with raw shellfish. Beware. [21 May 2007 14:47:12]
