Description

An expensive little restaurant that gives the feel of colonial New Castle; just get past the 'snooty' service and the pretentious owners.

Atmosphere
Jessop's offers great pub atmosphere in the colonial town of New Castle Delaware. The bill of fare is sure to satisfy your palate, and the entertainment (every third monday of the month) is grand.    [27 Jul 2000 09:10:08]

Stay far, far, away
Rude hostess... owner(?). Treats you like an animal. Food very lack luster. Save your money... hit McDonald's on the way out of town!    [26 Aug 2000 14:31:16]

Romantic Getaway
A great getaway from the monotonous scenery of shopping centers, chain restaurants and housing developements that overload most of New Castle County. The folks at Jessop's Tavern are always willing to go the extra mile. The food is excellent- bring a hearty appetite!! The building itself is full of charm and the people are always friendly. I always found it to be a relaxing retreat and the beer selection is wonderful. Try a Beamish!! (Like a Guiness only better!) I would also recomend the fruit/cheese/sausage smorgasbord.    [03 Nov 2000 15:37:20]

Only good experiences
I am sorry to hear that the previous reviewer had such a bad experience. Every time I have gone I have had only very good experiences: Friendly Staff, good food and good drink. The colonial decor and dark cozy feel of the place makes it a great place to take a date if you want to talk and not have to feel to dressed up or too casual. I found the food selection to be interesting and the food was well prepared -- nothing special, nothing Nuevo or strange, but good and tasty. The fine touches of serving on pewter and the candle lighting only add to the comfortable feel of the evening    [21 Nov 2000 16:51:33]

The food and service are great. But the best is the bread pudding for dessert. They also have a great bar selection    [26 Dec 2002 17:22:51]

Not what it used to be
I went there when it first it opened and it was worth my trip down from Philly. Now, it is expensive and the food just isn't what it used to be. New staff, perhaps?    [25 Feb 2003 16:58:33]
