A Real Treat Being from the north (New Jersey) and slowly learning to adapt to the southern way of cooking I had all but given up hope to find a real Italian restuarant on the Gulf Coast. Having lived down in Spring Hill, FL for the last 14 years I have always craved a good Italian meal without cooking it myself.
One evening my new girlfriend (soon to be my wife) and I were on Clearwater Beach and stumbled upon a little Italian restuarant called Capris. Having tried most of the so-called Italian restuarants on the Gulf Coast we were a little leery to stop in, but we did. Upon entrance, I knew this was no normal meal we were about to eat. I could instantly smell the garlic and rosemary as we were led to our table.
While waiting for our server I noticed everyone else seem to be very much at ease and enjoying their meals. It seemed like I was transported back north to a Mama Leones type setting. Every dish the waiter walked past me with, I would say, "That looks good," or "I'm going to order that one."
I finally decided on a pasta dish with shrimp and chicken which was exceptional, and my girlfriend hit the jackpot (calamari) - yes that's right calamari! I had never had calamari actually melt in my mouth before, but on this evening I had tasted true home style Italian cooking in Florida. On behalf of my girlfriend and I, I would like to tell the owners of Capris thank you for a wonderful evening and we'll see you's on Valentine's Day 2004. [25 Jan 2004 10:30:56]

Best Italian in the South Domenic's Capri Italian Restaurant has been on Clearwater Beach since 1981. The food is the best I've had in the South. The owers are from Italy and still do all the work. Its old style, old school Italian. You walk through a wine barrel as the entrance only to feel that warm, cozy, home like feeling. Not only do they have great food but a wine list to match. Bon appetito! [30 Jan 2004 11:46:52]
