Amelia's Beautiful environment, located in historic downtown Gainesville behing the Hippodrome State Theatre. The food is excellent, as well as the service. It is a truly excellent dining experience. [03 May 2002 20:00:02]

Would not return Despite its good reputation, my experience was terrible and I would not return. They were having some sort of electrical problem---not truly explained since the kitchen worked; to not sit in semi-darkness, we sat outside, which was our preference anyway, but once there, were conveniently forgotten by the staff. We were seated condescendingly by someone who apparently didn't think my charge card was as good as his, and this treatment continued throughout the meal by an unattentive and snooty waiter. The food was extremely high priced, which I will tolerate if the experience is worth it, but the pasta I ordered was inedibly salty and drowned with a bitter over-garlicked sauce. I would have returned it, but my date's brother (who thinks identically shaped chips are haute cuisine) crashed our dinner and decided to eat mine. Trying to salvage something from the dinner, I ordered a dessert.....which after 20 minutes was informed of its unavailability. If you want to spend this kind of money in downtown Gville, I reccommend the Sovereign. [24 Jan 2004 12:56:58]

One of the best I would chose Amelia's over Soverign hands down. Amelia's has the feel of a small European restaurant and their food has never disappointed. The prices are not unreasonable for what similar food would cost in larger cities. I would agree that the waiters are a bit on the snooty side but I'd prefer snooty to the typical overly perky and friendly TGIF type. [27 Mar 2004 17:51:47]
