Fun desserts and coffee! Great place for dessert, coffee, fun and friends. Certainly much better than the stuffy, evil Starbucks across the street.
Desserts are always fun to order and tasty. They also have a variety of new and vintage board games to play while hanging out. Jazz on Fridays (I think) is also very nice! [22 Jul 2003 18:49:23]

I would rather hang out in Hell... Crappy service, shabby service...did I mention the bad service?
Mediocre coffee and third class desserts, served in a 4th class atmosphere. Moochy, annoying, eco-hippy crowd. There are many other nicer places to get dessert and coffee.
Oh yeah, really bad live music. [15 Jul 2004 04:03:14]

Good Coffee Shop Style. Maudes is a good 'hang-out' coffee shop. It's true that service is slow, but you can always go to the counter, and the servers are friendly.
If you want to hang out and have coffee house discussion with friends/associates/business partners, this is a good place to be.
Free WiFi (bad reception unless you are outside) provided by the County.
They now server lunches.
Vegan/Veggatarian friendly, but they got plenty of all the yummy not-vegan stuff too (and I'm talking tasty meat stuff). [10 Mar 2005 16:09:02]

Nice ambiance! The coffee is OK; desserts have better names than their tastes; the food looks good; the games are cool; the service is really bad, but the ambiance is great.
No matter what they serve or how they serve it, I go there quite often because of the nice ambiance. Live Jazz at weekends in summer is the best part of it of course, while you sit at the outside tables and enjoy your coffee and cigarette, or a glass of wine and play backgammon, read books, or enjoy conversation with friends. Staff need customer service training They are sullen, slow and uninviting. The prices are crazy too. Why does a plain bagel and a cup tea cost $5? [01 Mar 2007 17:59:53]

Nice hangout spot This is a fun place because there are board games and because it's open late. Yes, it takes forever if you order at your table, but it's extremely quick at the counter.
As for the food, most of the desserts are overpriced, but the cookies are delicious, huge, and less than $2. The coffee is comparable to Starbucks in both price and quality, but why go there when you can have this great atmosphere? [17 Feb 2008 16:25:12]
