What Was Once Good is Now Mediocre at Best.
Steak and Pasta Works in Gainesville was once one of my favorite restaurants. Unfortunately, they seem to have fallen on hard times. It appears as though management, in an effort to save a penny or two will turn this once fine steakhouse into just another Gainesville food mill. If you decide to give it a try, go early for the best prices and the possibility of decent food. This night, my meal was awful. Directly before my steak arrived, I was informed that they were out of baked potatos. Fair enough. Things happen. I asked for the vegetable medley. What I got instead of the promised (fresh not frozen) brocolli, cauliflower, carrots and squash, was a cool smattering of overdone mush that at one time was zuccinni. When I informed our waiter that this would not do, and I would opt for the fries (two out of three ain't bad) he eventually brought me a greasy refried mess that smelled like a county fair . Bottom line: this restaurant is in the midst of some sort of financial/management trauma. Don't go until you hear from someone that they have their act together once again.    [06 Apr 2005 23:17:03]

UGH! NOT REAL ITALIAN AT ALL!!!
THE FOOD HERE IS TERRIBLE. DOES EVERYTHING COME OUT OF A CAN? THE STEAK WAS COLD AND HAD NO FLAVOR, DON'T TELL ME IT IS CERTIFIED ANGUS. THE PASTA SAUCE TASTED LIKE IT WAS STRAIGHT FROM CHEF BOYARDEE. THE SERVICE WAS ALSO BAD. WHAT WAS GOOD? Give it another try.
It is now 2008 and the CEO and Owner died this past August. There have been many changes for the better here - newer staff and a new menu on the way. The steaks are Angus Beef and the Prime Rib is delectable. Please give the place another try.    [31 Jan 2008 09:18:37]

Never will be the same!
Who knows why but the ambiance, food and service have hit a new low. The best bet is to find another place that has consistent quality, friendly and caring staff and, so on.    [18 Jul 2008 15:51:18]
