The food's decent, but it's the setting that separates the Salt Rock Grill from its many competitors. by Sara Kennedy - CitySearch, Sara Kennedy - suggest change

My FAVORITE restaurant We have been to Salt Rock many times. The food and service are always excellent. My favorite dishes are the salmon on the plank and the tuna. It is always prepared deliciously. My husband and sons prefer the steaks. It is so unusal to have a place that is so good at beef and seafood. They really pick great servers. Best of all is the location with the lovely view. You have to try it! [21 May 2001 17:35:20]

Salt Rock Grill is the Hot Spot Food at it's best. The 20oz. Tail is to die for; and if you don't see what you like, they will make it. Our server Jamie did everything for us ... even ran to 7 eleven for our cigarettes. [08 Oct 2002 11:48:34]

Not Worth the Wait We have tried this restaurant a total of 4 times thus far and have yet to make it to the table without a total screw up on the part of the host/hostess. Their "reservations" are meaningless. On one occassion, while with my mother-in-law, we were sat 2 1/2 hours after the scheduled time. On every other occassion, the wait was a minimum of one to 1 1/2 hours after the reservation time.
Service (table side) is fairly decent, but considering the price structures and the initial wait, the diner must have something going for it so it may as well be the table service.
The food was mediocre, at best, but when factoring price in, it really is overpriced, boringly cooked, and poorly presented. The wine list and cellar, however, is impressive.
Overall, there are many finer restaurants in the Clearwater/St. Pete/Tampa area that run circles around this place. If it were not for the Intercoastal waterfront setting, wine list and prices, I doubt this restaurant would have lasted a month. [02 Dec 2002 11:13:20]

Salt Rock Rocks! Best seafood in Florida! The Rock Shrimp and Tuna Sashimi appetizers were the bomb. Alaskan King crab legs had an incredible, smokey-sweet succulent flavor you won't find anywhere else. Planked Salmon was a bargain and also fantastic.
A great restaurant delivers great food from the bread, salad, appetizers, side dishes and entrees. That's just what Salt Rock did.
The service is slow, but well worth the wait. Forget what the anonymous imbecile that badmouthed Salt Rock wrote. He is probably some purveyor of bad grouper and oysters in Tampa. If you don't like Salt Rock Grill you are a whining French a-hole who doesn't like anything. [30 May 2003 23:15:25]

Slat ROCKS WOW, what a place. The best restaurant ... period. It blows away every other place on the beach, especially that dump up the road Guppies. The small fish eat at guppies the big dogs dine at the ROCK. [26 Jan 2004 14:02:47]

Reservation? Are you kidding? Those people don't know the meaning of "reservation"; so don't be surprised with the delay. I requested a quiet table in the corner, found my party in the middle of the restaurant. The hostesses were as snobby as any doctors receptionists and we saw our waiter once, to get the bill after our order was taken. The food was average at best. I give this restaurant two stars out of a possible five. Oh, before I forget, OSHA should check out the noise level in this place. I still can't hear anything the place was so loud. Not the Same I've been visiting Salt Rock Grill for a while. Initially, it was the best thing happening but they changed Chefs or their methods. Anyway, now the service is bad but the food is mediocre at best. What a disappointment! [25 Aug 2004 15:51:03]

Salt Rock WAY Over-rated! First, let me say that I don't mind spending big bucks for good food, and it was my birthday, so what the heck!!! There were three of us on vacation in Indian Shores, and thought we'd give it a try, after hearing some raves on a travel forum.
What a waste of time and money! The service was SO BAD, it was a joke! The food, mediocre, especially for the price. We spent about $175, and could have had a more enjoyable meal at Burger King for $12!!! Never again! [20 Aug 2006 12:14:54]

Posh Applebea's There are many Restaurants around better than this place. Typical huge place where no one seems to really care. The noise is terrible, it's like sitting in a school dining hall. [01 Jun 2007 22:14:43]
