Coal's is Coal's No More Coal's Brick Oven Pizzeria is now the German Schnitzel Haus (they still serve pizza) I’m sad to report the death of really darn good pizza... Coals was a nice neighborhood pizza joint with a huge wood burning brick oven. Well the huge wood burning brick oven is still there but the pizza has gone to the birds... Actually I don’t think any self respecting birds would eat it... Ok, It’s not quite that bad but it used to be some of the best pizza in town until it went German. The thing that sticks out in my mind is the crust has changed. It used to be light, crisp, and very tasty - now it’s heavy and instead of baking right on the oven floor they use a pan? What’s up with that? Bye Bye crisp crust... They also went from getting nice strip sausage from NYC to some German brand that’s not as good... I don’t see myself going back for pizza - On the flip side their German dishes are good... [05 Dec 2007 11:36:21]

Damn good pizza I have to disagree with Nikko. I think the pizza is fantastic. Now granted, it is a little different then when it was just Coal's, but its still flavorful. I love the new crust. I think Coal's used to burn their crust way too much. The pan stops that from happening. Not to mention, I'm not a fan of crispy thin crusts. So it really just depends on preference. Give it a chance. You may be surprised. The wait staff is superb. The beers are marvelous. I love it! [10 Apr 2008 09:34:47]
