Go for something other than the AHI Tuna
I just returned from the Old Key Lime House. The Lobster Bisque was very good. The crab dip was suitably crabby. The atmosphere is a blend of tropical and Florida Cracker. Don't forget to save your soup crackers to feed to the catfish out in the intracoastal out back.

Don't order the Ahi Tuna; it is "seared and encrusted with sesame seeds". I've had this dish before. It is yummy when pulled off. The Old Key Lime house though doesn't make that happen. It was a thin, rather dry, overcooked thing (I'd ordered it rare and received it well done). It was perhaps 3/8" thick and about 4" x 4". At $21.00 the Ahi Tuna meal can only be described as ridiculous.
My dinner guests ate Florida lobster tails, which I sampled. These were cooked to perfection. It seems like it would be a foregone conclusion that seafood restaurants in Florida would do a good job with tails but in fact, many don't.

In conclusion; the atmosphere is absolutely perfect, there are some menu items for the $12.00 a plate crowd. The main entries are $20+. I would rather eat shoe leather than the Ahi Tuna.    [19 May 2007 22:50:22]
